  • Small family-friendly site in the Montesinho Natural Park
  • A 25-minute drive from the medieval town of Bragança
  • On-site restaurant serving homemade local meals and snacks
It’s a truly green and pleasant part of the world up here in the north-eastern corner of Portugal. If it’s peace and quiet you seek, you’ll find it in spades both at Parque de Campismo Cepo Verde itself and in the surrounding Montesinho Natural Park, one of the country’s largest protected areas. Choose to rest your head here for quiet pitches in the woods, shaded by native chestnut, cherry and oak trees: this spot was once a Roman settlement and a mighty fine location they picked too for mountain views… These days it’s an equally enviable locale as you can amble straight out onto several of the park’s marked trails to explore on foot. Push yourself to the end of your hike safe in the knowledge that a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool awaits upon your return to the site (a small charge applies for pool use). A playground, sports area, basketball and table tennis are also on site if any energy remains. Appetites duly worked up, there are communal grills for you to sizzle up dinner, or you can wander over to the restaurant to pick from its menu of homemade traditional faves such as wild boar, local cheeses and chestnut pudding. A woodburning stove keeps things toasty on chillier nights. Among the site’s amenities are a washing-up area, a washing machine, a chemical disposal point, a toilet block with hot showers and accessible facilities, and plenty of taps with fresh springwater. Wifi is available in the restaurant and main building, and there’s a small shop there too that will save you having to lug your own wood, charcoal and gas to the site.

From the manager: When you made the check-in, Daniel was very nice with you and sent you to a very beautiful plot, shady, on a beautiful tree surrounding area (is so beautiful that we made a video spot for our Facebook and we post it on the 21st of may). On that video you can actually see a few motorcycles that loved to stay at that specific spot. And we receive many many bikes in our campsite every month, and we actually are partner of ACT (Adventure Country Track Europe). There were a few people close to your spot, so it’s not true when you say “and put us as far from others and Amenities as possible”. No, you were on a very central position in the campsite, like dozens of other guests there. This said, we are really surprised and choked with your review end evaluation and we think that you´re being absolutely unfair, disproportioned and quite dishonest. Daniel treated you so well, went with you to show everything and explain you all about the campsite. He was quiet professional. And now, you evaluated with “1” point in a scale of “10”!? You couldn’t be more radical than that, that´s true. But you couldn’t be so unfair too. Because when you left the campsite, you invoked reasons related with some disable issue of your partner. But you did not mentioned nothing related to that in your booking (made days before arrival), you din not made special mentions previously and you did not mentioned that now (!) in your review (!). So, we don’t know the real reasons of your discontent. We really don’t know you state of mind. We hope you can find something else in Portugal that can feat your strange expectations during your riding.

Electric optional gravel and earth motorhome pitch

Liked: Location, swimming pool, friendliness of bar staff, showers and toilets

Disliked: Not keen on pitches, they were tiered and it felt like we were parked on a dirt track. Electric was on tier above. Only 5 amp. Little view.

From the manager: Hello. Thanks for your visit and review. About the issues mentioned: Cepo Verde is a campsite located in levels in a beautifull sloap in the midle of the Montesinho national park (plateau camping) and there are diferent type of pitches, some with a lot of views and some with less views. But all of them have plenty of shadow and they are all autonomous pitches, numbered and separated from others. The electricity connections are 6 amperes by law requirements concencing campsites safety. The ground is gravel as natural on a moutanin campsite. We walyaws try to choose the best pitch for the guests but it depends also on the arrival time. Adn we never know if the pitch we think its ok its gona be ok for the guest opinion. Some times we previously choose a pitch that we think its just nice and then, when the guest arrives, prefers (when there is options) another that we thouth it was a bad spot.. So we never know whats the best option for each specific guest (unless they already know the campsite and they can tell us the pitch when they book, if it is avaible..). Kind regards. Cristiana

A small shop with essentials would be a huge benefit to this site.

Electric optional gravel and earth motorhome pitch

Liked: Layout and wonderful scenery.
Lots of nature. Excellent site and facilities
Very clean and piped music very soothing

Disliked: Too far from any shops/ provisions.
Electrics poor. Only 6 amps, constantly tripping out.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hello and many thanks for your review. Of course we always wish all guest to have the best stay with us. The 6 amperes limitation is a legal rule in Portugal for elecricity conexion in campsites (for safety reasons, specifically for fire risk protection). Sometimes if someone conects some devices with to much power (normaly more than 1100 watts) it pops down.

Electric optional gravel and earth motorhome pitch

Liked: Reception staff very friendly, helpful & welcoming. Excellent shower facilities. Pool looked immense (sadly too cool a breeze to use during our stay). Lovely walks direct from site. Fabulous views and scenery from pitches. Bar terrace very pleasant too.

Disliked: These are not dislikes and would not stop me visiting again. Just to be aware of - road from main road and then road to camp(about 600metres) are narrow with incline and tight bend. We are 7.45 metre, 3.85 t mohome. There are not many options if you meet another unit coming in opposite way. We were fortunate not to meet any other traffic. Naturally as terraced campsite, pitch options for larger units is more restricted but it is doable and staff very helpful. Finally, restaurant was lovely especially with Guinness World record penknife! In comparison to other places we had eaten out in Portugal, it was on the more dearer side but is to be expected due to location. Even saying that, it was still a fair price in that we had 2 main courses, half litre of wine & 2 desserts for E40. Service was excellent and food good. One other feedback - a self service laundry might be a bonus, as E20 for a service wash seemed expensive.

From the manager: Hello. Thanks so much for your nice review. We are very glad that you had a pleasent stay with us. All our staff works for the best. Just to clarify that the secundary road - from municipal road to the campsite, makes a total of 350 m. It is good, perfect asfalt, perfectly fine, never had a problem in 32 years of existing of the campsite and we receive a few buses every year. It is incline in a small part of it, but its normal because we are in the most mountainous region of Portugal. All roads in the region (national roads, municipal roads an even the highway, cross high mountains). Kind regards. Telmo

Electric optional gravel and earth motorhome pitch

Liked: Friendly reception. We turned up on an incredibly cold, wet day but the site still seemed very nice, The view over the hills is stunning. The toilets, as other people have written, are the best we have seen and I was unsure how they kept them so clean with all the mud around the pitches. Signage for drinking water was very clear.

Disliked: Pitch was a little bit small and we might have felt cramped if we were staying longer than one night. There were bigger grass pitches which may be better.

From the manager: Hello Mr José Pinto. We would have liked to know what was the reason of you 6/10 evaluation. Only that way something could be improved. You´ve stayed in a bungalow for 3 nights (1st of march until 4th). I supose that the weather wasn´t the best for your visit during the carnaval (rainy weather), but our staff dedicated much time to put the bungalow very warm (we set the wood stove on and all the heaters to) so you could have all the confort. The bungalow is small and simple but all the conditions are provided. So we only can try to gess what was the reason of your low evaluation. Anyway, we wish all the best. Regards. Cepo Verde team

Local attractions

Wander out from the site and you’ll quickly be able to pick up some of the well-marked trails that run across the Montesinho Natural Park. In summer, pick cherries as you go, and in autumn join groups to learn about foraging for mushrooms. Ask on site for details of hikes that suit your abilities and interests – perhaps drive the half hour to the village of Dine for a walk that takes in ancient lime kilns and a neolithic cave. Also half an hour away is Quintanilha, where you can take a walk along the banks of the Maçãs river to a bathing spot to cool off in the clear water. Guadramil, 50 minutes’ drive from the site, is the place to go if you’d like to spot wildlife such as deer and wolves. It’s worth heading out of the park for a day to visit the town of Bragança, around a 25-minute drive away. Start with a wander around the medieval castle and citadel before heading over to the Romanesque Domus Municipalis; also in town are a military museum and the Iberian Museum of Masks and Costume.
