  • Vast site outside Perelhal, a 10-minute drive from the Atlantic coast
  • Viana do Castelo 25 minutes’ drive; Porto 45 minutes
  • Pool, garden and barbecue area; spacious pitches in a eucalyptus grove
Sitting between the city of Barcelos (15 minutes’ drive) and the Atlantic coast (10 minutes) is Quinta Viana, a fenced-off 1.2-hectare site in the valley of the Cávado River. It’s blissfully peaceful here – not least because the owners welcome only a maximum of nine groups at any time; and spacious touring pitches are surrounded by a fragrant eucalyptus forest. Dogs are welcome on site and must be kept on leads at all times because the site's two German shepherds roam freely around the premises – note that they are well trained, not to mention used to being around guests of all ages and sizes. A saltwater pool is available for refreshing dips and invigorating laps when you can’t face the drive to the coast; there are tall trees and large umbrellas for shade, and plenty of loungers around the pool. The flower-filled gardens also have a barbecue area where you can mingle with the other guests and get some inspiration on what to do the next day. Catching a wave (and a sunset) at Esposende (10 minutes), maybe? Or a spot of birdwatching on the sand dunes of the Parque Natural do Litoral Norte (20 minutes), with its windmill-dotted landscape? Golf Quinta da Barca (10 minutes) is an 18-hole course on the banks of the Cávado, and a horse-riding centre a 10-minute drive away arranges excursions in the countryside and on the beach. When you need to fill up the larder, there’s a supermarket in Perelhal village (5 minutes’ drive), alongside a couple of restaurants.

What customers say

This small, friendly campsite offers a peaceful escape with exceptional facilities, including a superb saltwater pool and immaculately clean bathrooms. Hosts are frequently praised for their warmth, helpfulness, and creating a welcoming, family-like atmosphere. Campers highlight the thoughtful touches, barbecue facilities, communal areas, and availability of fresh produce from the garden. Liked The quietness, shower block, pool, honesty bar, Victor(the owner), family run site, friendly feel to the place.
Showers are what you would expect in a high end hotel and also incorporate a toilet and washbasin.
A lovely little poolside area with sofas, games and honesty bar.
The owners are extremely approachable and nothing seems to be too much trouble.
The quietness is palpable although we went in October, only ourselves and another family were there. To keep that feeling they must keep the numbers down as there are only 2 shower en-suites. BBQ area.

Disliked Nothing really as the site is obviously continually improving. Anything said here is just a reflection as to where the site is in 2025 but after seeing what they have done to date we will definitely be back to see what else they have achieved. Yes, the pitches are on a slight slope but a minimal inconvenience.
Washing up station could do with hot water but I know how far they have come with the site in such a short space of time and have no doubt it will be rectified.

Liked Wow!
We would give this 11/10 if we could.
A most unusual campsite. Small (max 9 vans) in a meadow that is part of Victor's garden.
There is a truly family feel to the place. Victor even gathered everyone around the firepit and gave us port to celebrate his birthday.
The family are further improving the site, but already the swimming pool and showers/toilets are amazing.
Was sorry to leave and may revisit on our return journey.

Disliked Very little to dislike.
The 'old' shower block is scabby, but rarely used now the new one is built.
And the toilet disposal is very basic.
Otherwise a great site.

Liked What not to like? From arrival to departure this was a heavenly stay. Hosts Victor and Suzanne are multi-lingual and can converse excellently in English. Relatively new site but so welcoming. Site is situated on a previous vineyard. Hosts restrict numbers so no more than 9 outfits at any one time. Facilities are excellent and spotlessly clean. Fantastic showers. Beautiful saltwater swimming pool with ample sun loungers and large umbrellas to provide shade. Communal areas - dining covered area and relaxing sofa area opposite the pool area and another one on the camping site area with a tiled table and chairs in shade. If that’s not all there is also a log fire area with seating around to encourage socialisation in the evenings. The hosts are so attentive and really welcome guests into their family. Genuinely pleased to offer advice about the local area. Dogs and children welcomed. Book now for a real treat! You won’t be disappointed.

Disliked Absolutely nothing.

Liked Loved Mr and Mrs Viktor - couldn't do enough for us. Told us to treat as our home with fresh fruit available whenever we wanted to pick, straight from the plants. Lit the firepit for us in the evening. Nice location, handy for lots of different places

Local attractions

The Elevador de Santa Luzia at Viana do Castelo (25 minutes’ drive) travels up a forested hill topped by the monumental Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, started in the early 1900s. Take in far-reaching views of the coastline and the city before checking out the Roman ruins nearby, then head to the modern cultural centre on the Limia river for an exhibition. Built between the 15th and 17th centuries, the cathedral in Braga (25 minutes) displays various architectural styles – from the Manueline exterior to the rich baroque decoration of its chapels. After visiting the cathedral treasury, head to the landscaped Santa Barbara Garden, part of the Archbishops Court. Porto (45 minutes) is famed for its many buildings covered with blue azulejo tiles – from the cloisters of the cathedral, to the Chapel of Souls and São Bento Station. After visiting Livraria Lello, a splendid bookshop with an elegant staircase and a stained-glass ceiling, take a breather and sample the local Port wine in one of several bars.
