Sitting between the city of Barcelos (15 minutes’ drive) and the Atlantic coast (10 minutes) is Quinta Viana, a fenced-off 1.2-hectare site in the valley of the Cávado River. It’s blissfully peaceful here – not least because the owners welcome only a maximum of nine groups at any time; and spacious touring pitches are surrounded by a fragrant eucalyptus forest. Dogs are welcome on site and must be kept on leads at all times because the site's two German shepherds roam freely around the premises – note that they are well trained, not to mention used to being around guests of all ages and sizes. A saltwater pool is available for refreshing dips and invigorating laps when you can’t face the drive to the coast; there are tall trees and large umbrellas for shade, and plenty of loungers around the pool. The flower-filled gardens also have a barbecue area where you can mingle with the other guests and get some inspiration on what to do the next day. Catching a wave (and a sunset) at Esposende (10 minutes), maybe? Or a spot of birdwatching on the sand dunes of the Parque Natural do Litoral Norte (20 minutes), with its windmill-dotted landscape? Golf Quinta da Barca (10 minutes) is an 18-hole course on the banks of the Cávado, and a horse-riding centre a 10-minute drive away arranges excursions in the countryside and on the beach. When you need to fill up the larder, there’s a supermarket in Perelhal village (5 minutes’ drive), alongside a couple of restaurants.

Liked This site is amazing, great location, lovely welcome on arrival, nice pitches, outstanding facilities, so many little touches that just really set this site apart from others, the owners want you to enjoy your stay, they are often found on site to have a chat & help, the whole place just has just such a friendly relaxed atmosphere

Liked Schöne große Stellplätze und viel Natur rundherum.
Ein herzlicher Empfang durch die Eigentümer, die den Platz liebevoll pflegen und sogar für ihre Gäste Gemüse anpflanzen, welches quasi als Selbstbedienung angelegt ist.
Luxuriös anmutender Dusch- und Toilettenbereich am sehr gepflegten Pool. Dazu eine einladende große Terrasse an der die Gäste zusammenkommen können.

Oder es lässt sich auf dem Gelände gemeinsam mit allen Gästen am Lagerfeuer zusammenkommen.

Spielmöglichkeiten ebenfalls vorhanden. (Badminton, Fußballtore)

Disliked Minimaler Nachteil, keine Entsorgung der Fahrzeuge am Platz möglich, allerdings durch tolle vorhandene Duschen und Toiletten auch nicht nötig.

Liked Mit viel Liebe zum Detail angelegtes Kleinod mit herzlichen und hilfsbereiten Betreibern.Pool, Sanitäranlagen, alles einwandfrei und sauber. Waschmaschine vorhanden. Zusätzliches Plus; Überdachter Gemeindschaftsbereich am Pool mit Tischkicker, Schach, Brettspielen, offene Grillstelle mit Stitzgelegenheiten, Gasgrill und gemauerter Holzkohlegrill zur freien Benutzung. Mit nur 10 Stellplätzen klein ( genau was uns gefällt) die Stellplätze selber sind aber großzügig bemessen. Strom, Wasser, Abwasser G/S Entsorgung vorhanden
Für uns wäre es das i-Tüpfelchen wenn der Platz "Adults only" wäre.

Liked This is one of the most beautiful campsites I have stayed in. Susanna and Victor are the most fabulous hosts and they have made this small site so welcoming with lovely facilities.

Disliked The entrance was a bit tight. We had to unhitch and get in by using the mover but it is such a quite road that it was not a problem.

Liked Kleiner feiner Campingplatz mit großen Stellplätzen. Hier findet man Ruhe und, wenn man möchte, kann man den Pool, Lagerfeuer und Geselligkeit genießen.
Erwähnenswert ist die Sauberkeit und die Geräumigkeit der Badezimmer, die man für sich allein nutzen kann.

Liked El camping es pequeño, acogedor y precioso, ubicado en una zona ideal y con todo lo que se puede necesitar: duchas, fregaderos, salón comedor, piscina... Todo césped. Y el trato personalizado de Víctor.

Disliked El acceso no está bien identificado, y si llegas de noche como fue nuestro caso, se hace complicado.
La dificultad para reservar y una pequeña confusión con el precio que finalmente se solventó fácilmente.

Local attractions

The Elevador de Santa Luzia at Viana do Castelo (25 minutes’ drive) travels up a forested hill topped by the monumental Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, started in the early 1900s. Take in far-reaching views of the coastline and the city before checking out the Roman ruins nearby, then head to the modern cultural centre on the Limia river for an exhibition. Built between the 15th and 17th centuries, the cathedral in Braga (25 minutes) displays various architectural styles – from the Manueline exterior to the rich baroque decoration of its chapels. After visiting the cathedral treasury, head to the landscaped Santa Barbara Garden, part of the Archbishops Court. Porto (45 minutes) is famed for its many buildings covered with blue azulejo tiles – from the cloisters of the cathedral, to the Chapel of Souls and São Bento Station. After visiting Livraria Lello, a splendid bookshop with an elegant staircase and a stained-glass ceiling, take a breather and sample the local Port wine in one of several bars.
