It is, however, essential to provide accurate context so that future readers may fully understand the exceptional circumstances surrounding your visit.

Your stay coincided with one of the most severe and prolonged winter weather events Portugal has experienced in decades. The country endured consecutive weeks of extraordinary rainfall and violent winds. On certain days, precipitation levels reached more than 25% of the annual average within just a few hours. The scale of these storms was such that Portugal became a constant feature across multiple European news outlets, with widespread reporting on flooding, infrastructure disruption, and regional impact.

These were not typical seasonal conditions. They were extreme meteorological events that significantly affected outdoor operations nationwide.

For safety reasons, and in line with responsible property management practices, all outdoor furniture and loose equipment were temporarily removed to prevent damage or risk of projection caused by severe winds. Under normal conditions, these amenities are fully available and form an integral part of the experience regularly enjoyed by our guests.

Although portions of the camper-designated areas are gravelled — complemented by a fully paved alternative parking area — the sustained and exceptional rainfall left the surrounding terrain deeply saturated. In such circumstances, neither staff nor machinery can safely operate outdoors without risking structural damage to the land. It is important to highlight that the property is situated on elevated ground, benefiting from natural drainage and extensive gravel coverage. These characteristics allowed it to remain comparatively stable given the intensity of the storms. Nonetheless, after consecutive weeks of unprecedented weather, even well-prepared terrain requires time to recover. This was a temporary, weather-driven situation — not a reflection of neglect, deterioration, or lack of maintenance.

Regarding Wi-Fi, internet access is available in designated areas exactly as stated in our listing. We do not advertise full-property coverage, and the service operates precisely as described.

It is also relevant to note that your visit consisted of a short overnight stay, with limited interaction and without participation in the experiences and services that define the essence of Herdade Foz da Represa. Characterising the property as “derelict” under such extraordinary climatic conditions and within such a brief timeframe does not reflect the consistent feedback shared by guests who experience the estate under normal circumstances.

We remain fully committed to maintaining high standards, operating responsibly, and offering the peaceful Alentejo retreat our visitors value. Exceptional weather events, while beyond our control, are managed with prudence and care to protect both guests and the property.

Liked Lovely setting , quiet ,and a very nice host. You need to be self contained and not require power, only 1 toilet available . But they don’t cater for large numbers of visitors.
