  • Family-friendly site on the shore of the Veerse Meer lagoon
  • Next to a watersports centre and two kilometres from a sandy beach
  • Indoor pool, tennis, café, snack bar and brasserie
Watersports of all sorts reign at RCN Vakantiepark De Schotsman in the lush Netherlands district of Zeeland. This roomy and family-friendly site is on the shore of the Veerse Meer lagoon, a 22-kilometre watery body popular with sailors and boaty types, and is near the town and waters of Kamperland, favoured by watersporters of all types. The site has its own watersports centre with sailing lessons available and boats, canoes, kayaks and windsurfing equipment for hire – truly, if you haven't got out onto water much in your travelly career, this is the Dutch place at which to do it… A wide sandy beach (with kitesurfing school) is a couple of kilometres away too. Go-karts and bikes can be hired on site for your hours out and about in the surrounding countryside or along the Zeeland coast and getting to attractions within pedalling distance, such as the Oosterschelde National Park, reachable in about an hour, and the Deltapark Neeltje Jans animal, theme and water park within about 35 minutes. An indoor pool and paddling pool are at your leisurely disposal for watery antics on site; elsewhere, let the kids loose around the spacious grounds and to tackle the fine features of the indoor playground, or take them along to get stuck into tennis or beach volleyball. The recreation team runs activities in high season. Catering of all flavours is covered at the spacious and handsome brasserie, at the snack bar and at the café.

What customers say

This campsite is highly regarded for its child-friendly amenities, including an excellent playground and ample space, particularly by the water. Guests frequently praise the cleanliness and well-maintained grounds, with many appreciating the beautiful lake-side pitches. The proximity to cycle paths and the beach is a significant advantage. However, some visitors note that the main washrooms can be dated and have cleanliness issues, with occasional shortages of toilet paper and litter bins. Shower pressure has also been mentioned as a concern. The swimming pool, while generally liked, has had complaints about being too cold or having restrictive opening hours. Some guests also found the on-site shop and brasserie hours limited and the food quality disappointing.

Liked tolle Lage

Liked Emplacement spacieux, jolie vue.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (comfort)

Liked We loved our holiday exploring Zeeland and the surrounding area, based at RCN Schotsman. The site was peaceful, felt safe, and gave the kids freedom to explore. The mere-side play area was extremely popular with them, and the outdoor pool flumes too! We enjoyed spending time as a family, bike rides, beach BBQs, bodyboarding, sailing to Veere, and just eating together outdoors. The facilities were clean and convenient.

Disliked The wasps!! It would have been great to have offered fresh milk at reception not just UHT, the shops at Kamperland were only a short drive away so it's not like this was a massive issue for us. Actually we did have one complaint - we developed an electrical problem with our folding trailer tent, and although the reception team were very helpful, the site maintenance team would not even consider lifting a finger to try to help us out - very disappointing actually, and reflected really badly on them and by inference on the whole team ethos.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (comfort)

Liked How quiet the site was. How close to facilities. Animals roaming (ducks coming for brekfast) staff were brilliant very welcoming. Fresh bread and pastries. Pool bike hire. The access to beach and bike paths pretty much most of our stay was great.

Disliked Toilets damn stinking showers and toilets. Not been cleaned properly floors filthy in shower rooms. The timers are rubbish not enough time and no warning its going off. Tall trees blocking all the sun to our pitch.could trim them back to allow a little sun. Disappointed the snack bar was closed the last week so we left a couple days earlier.

Local attractions

Water, water everywhere – and such a lot to do. Your watery day can be sorted at the site watersports centre, where you can hire kit and vessels of all sorts, or take a sailing lesson if you still have to learn the ropes. A waterski centre is a short walk from the site and a kitesurfing school is a couple of kilometres away at the local beach. There's also the option of scuba diving at the Oosterschelde National Park, about 23 kilometres away, or having a watery family day at Deltapark Neeltje Jans, the waterpark, theme park, aquarium and animal park in the Oosterschelde region. If you're up for a townie day, drive for about 20 minutes to the old city of Middelburg, capital of the Zeeland province. Its abbey, town hall and Lange Jan abbey tower are the main items on a sightseeing checklist; there are also a few museums to see, and a handful of concert halls and theatres including Schouwburg and the Concertzaal Zeeland.
