How often do you get to set up camp right by an attractive marina, within sight of elegant boats and tall masts? Well, at Jachthaven Waterkant, you can do exactly that. Part of a yacht club, this spacious site occupies a green spot on the western bank of the Dintel, just where the river meets the waters of the Volkerak. Guests can take advantage of all the marina facilities, which include a modern and well-maintained toilet block with showers, and a launderette (with dryers, too). There are also good facilities for disabled guests, with a wheelchair-accessible toilet. After dark, all the paths are well lit, so you can walk along the pontoons with confidence. A playground with inflatable and climbing structures should keep the kids busy while you get the barbecue (provided) going; if they prefer splashier attractions, there is a waterslide, or they can explore the marina on a paddleboard. Speaking of barbecues (and food), there’s a supermarket in the North Brabant village of Dinteloord, about five minutes’ drive away. It doesn’t take much longer than that to cycle into the village (you can hire a bike on site, if you don’t have your own), and about 25 minutes on foot (the peaceful Postbaan route is also excellent for a dog walk). Once in the village, you can reward your active efforts with a pitstop in a café or a pizzeria; the nearest restaurant, though, is right on site: a brasserie with a large decked waterfront area.

Liked A quiet space overlooking the marina. The toilet block was nice and clean with hot showers. The free use of the bikes is excellent and meant we could cycle into Dinteloord instead of driving. Easy access to Rotterdam.

Disliked Didn’t dislike but the pot washing is outside. Ok for as the weather was great.

Liked Lovely lady at reception! Great fun in the hire paddle board €40 2 hours
Perfect view, great showers, although 5 mins can be a little short if washing hair as well ! But if you wait a couple of mins you can press again ! Lovely swimming pool with diving boards in the village with grassy area to sunbathe, take a picnic, you have to pay !

Liked Kantoor was gesloten toen we toekwamen maar na een telefoontje ging de slagboom open en hebben we een vrij plaatsje uitgekozen. Rustige plaats, goede faciliteiten en gemoedelijke sfeer zoals meestal in een jachthaven.

Built by Napoleon in 1811, Fort Sabina (10 minutes’ drive) is a five-sided earthen fort surrounded by a moat and strategically positioned on the banks of the Volkerak. The star-shaped city of Willemstad (15 minutes) is surrounded by water (and it has its own marina, on the river Hollands Diep). Take a tour of the fortifications, stopping at bastions like Friesland or Utrecht, or visit the 18th-century arsenal. Breda (35 minutes) spreads around the Grote Kerk, a 13th-century church with a delicately ornate bell tower and the tombs of the royal Orange family. Stop at the nearby market square for alfresco refreshments, then head to the Stadspark Valkenberg, a green area by the river Mark, for a yoga session or live music – or just to relax.
