  • Rural family park in the Limburg hills on the Mergellandroute
  • Within 35 minutes' drive of Maastricht, Liège and Aachen
  • Playing fields, football field, pétanque court and lots of green space
For a happy hol in the hills of Limburg, it's off to Camping Heyenrade you go – this peaceful and rural green space lies in the Limburg hills between Slenaken and Epen on the spectacular 110-kilometre Mergellandroute. As you’d expect from such a scenic countryside site (and this one most definitely makes that list), hikes and bike rides are all around here, through the local landscapes of meadows, farmland, forests and traditional villages… But if you’re into city slicking? The park’s well placed for urban adventures too: Maastricht is half an hour’s drive for medieval architecture and a studenty cultural scene set against the backdrop of a cobbled old town, while Belgium’s Liège – with its Romanesque Church of St Bartholomew and Grand Curtius archaeological and art museum – is 35 minutes away. Germany’s spa city of Aachen also takes 35 minutes to reach – stop by if only to check out ancient finds like the shrine of Charlemagne… And if you’re taking the Mergellandroute (much recommended), towns and cities along the way include Maastricht, Bunde, Willem and Hulsberg; just look out for the Royal Dutch Touring Club (AWNB) signs to guide you. Back on site, playing fields, a pétanque court, a football field and lots of green space are where to send kids who haven’t expended all their energy exploring. A public pool is at Mosaqua in Gulpen, five kilometres away for dips, and the local village of Slenaken a few minutes’ drive or around 20 minutes’ walk has a supermarket where you can sort snacks.

What customers say

This spacious and well-maintained campsite boasts a beautiful rural location with excellent walking routes nearby. Guests praised the friendly welcome, spotless facilities, and good on-site bar. While the spacious pitches and clean shower blocks were appreciated, multiple reviews highlighted issues with the shower system, specifically the need for tokens and the availability of only cold water at the washbasins. Some visitors felt the campsite was a little dated.

Electric optional grass motorhome pitch

Electric optional grass motorhome pitch

Liked Mooie ruime plaats, vriendelijke ontvangst, lekkere verse ontbijt broodjes,

Disliked Douches mogen langer lopen en warmer zijn, zeker van iets meer debiet (haren uitspoelen) voorzien worden. Lavabo’s hebben enkel koud water.

Electric optional grass touring caravan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The facilities were spotless and we received a warm welcome. WiFi on pitch was good. The on site bar was a bonus on those hot days. There is a deli and bakery a few km away in next village called Slenaken. There is also a delicious ice cream shop just over the Belgium border (15 mins walk from campsite ). This is a beautiful area in the Limburg area where there are plenty of walks.

Disliked Nothing

Electric optional grass motorhome pitch

Liked het rustige plekje dat we hadden

Disliked de camping is iets gedateerd en muntjes voor de douche is ook al oud op de meeste plekken kun je gewoon met een euro of 50 cent douchen.
echt een saaie camping.

Electric optional grass touring caravan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Friendly welcome on arrival. Given booklet about site and where to find our pitch which also included Wi-Fi code. Shower blocks spotlessly clean. Water close to pitch. The site is a mix of semi permanent pitch’s and touring. Bread can be ordered for collection next morning. Relaxed about payment just told to pay when we left. Close by where starts of well marked local walks which are well worth doing. Good selection of restaurants within 2km. Bus stops a few meters from entrance which we used to go to Maastricht as it was cheaper than parking there! Stayed a week and could have stayed longer as so much to see and do locally. Has a grass area in the middle of the site is you have children who want to run around or kick a ball. Swimming pool however is a bit like one you would have in your back garden. Not a problem for us. Bar on site if you fancy a beer

Electric optional grass touring caravan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Electric optional grass motorhome pitch

Liked Immaculate sanitary block, and well thought out site which made it feel really spacious with generous plots. Very quiet at night. Options to visit cafe and bar on foot.

Disliked Inconvenience of having to have a token for the shower. Would be so much better if it was a euro! A leaflet in English explaining facilities would have been welcome.

Local attractions

Gulpen, on the Gulp river, is 10 minutes’ drive from the site, and it's a place of buildings with oodles of history. Neuborg Castle is here for walks around tree-lined lands, and the Klooster Wittem and Redemptoristenklooster monasteries also sit on the boundaries of the pretty riverside town. Voeren is another local spot to mosey around, a Belgian enclave of Flanders 15 minutes away with a winery, fort and castle. For other urban options, travel 25 minutes or so for Valkenburg, which has a spa and stately homes balanced out by activities of a more modern nature – like a casino. It’s also got the Sprookjesbos theme park, including a 15-acre Fairytale Forest with statues and buildings celebrating the stories of Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. To take on bigger cities, Germany’s Cologne is an hour and 20 minutes away. If you're heading here, make sure to set time aside to puff up the multiple steps to the top of the tall cathedral and get snapping the memorable views over the river and old town.
