Planning to tour Friesland by boat and/or bike? You’ll be well placed for either (or both) when you stay at Koekoek en de Waard. This small-scale site is right on the waterfront in IJlst (between Sneek and Heeg), with its own boat moorings and space to launch your craft from the harbour. It’s a very bike-friendly spot too, with plenty of cycle paths nearby, including one that will take you to Sneek in about 15 minutes. Once there, you can pick up the Eleven Cities cycle route for a comprehensive tour of the area (or just choose a shorter section if you don't fancy the full 200km circuit…) This is a friendly little site so don’t be afraid to ask the team for their recommendations for route and destinations, however you’re travelling around. Those who don't have their own boat can arrange tours in either IJlst or Sneek, or just settle on the site's dock to watch the boats go by (perhaps also taking a swim if you like). The site’s location within IJlst is a handy one, with a supermarket 150 metres away, restaurants within walking distance and a railway station 15 minutes' walk away. Koekoek en de Waard is a pretty green site with a variety of plants around the gardens and a small stretch tent serving as a communal space for guests, with picnic tables, a bar and two fridges. There’s also an amenities building with two separate shower areas and two toilet areas, plus a washing machine for laundry day.

Local attractions

Start local with some time exploring IJlst – the ‘overtuinen’ (meaning ‘front gardens’), just over the road, provide a lovely green space for activities – and it’s also a short walk to De Rat working sawmill and Houtstad IJlst, a museum about the shipbuilding and wood industries. A little further afield, you can head to Sneek (15 minutes’ cycle/10 minutes’ drive) to explore the canals and see the famed red-brick Waterpoort, or to Heeg (10 minutes’ drive) for various watersports and sailing activities. Harlingen (half an hour) and Leeuwarden (35 minutes) are two more of the ‘Eleven Cities’ that are close by; both have history-filled streets and museums to visit. To see some of the area’s natural landscapes, make tracks to De Alde Feanen National Park (40 minutes) for boat tours and birdwatching, or Weerribben-Wieden National Park (50 minutes) for watersports, walks and wildlife watching.

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
The site will send you further check-in information 5 day(s) before your arrival.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs are not allowed if you are staying in the accommodation units.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.

In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
