  • Quiet Overijssel site with lots of facilities for families
  • Close to the German border; 15 minutes' drive to Nordhorn and its zoo
  • Indoor and outdoor pools, recreation lake and restaurant on site
What are the important facilities for a family holiday? It’s surely the parents that know best – so it’s handy to know that there are two young parents at the helm at Camping de Rammelbeek, and they’ve used their own personal experience to set their place up just how they’d like it for a family holiday. That means that this quiet Overijssel site is particularly well set up for families travelling with kids aged 12 and under – it’s got an outdoor pool and recreational lake for sunny days and an indoor pool and playground for less clement ones. Come along in high season and you’ll also find the place buzzing with various activities including sandcastle building and marshmallow toasting. It doesn’t have to be all active, though – there’s space to relax with some fishing at the pond, or to sit quietly and log on to the wifi to play games or stream TV shows (the fibreoptic connection provides a stable service to 90% of the site). Or perhaps it’s time just to grab a table at the restaurant for a family meal – menus cater for all ages and tastes, so hopefully there should be something to please all guests. The village of Lattrop, two kilometres away, has another restaurant – but for more choice when it comes to eating and shopping you’ll need to head to local towns like Ootmarsum or Denekamp, both 10 minutes’ drive away. Barbecues are permitted back on site, if you’d like to pick up supplies and get the grill going.

Local attractions

Local advice is the best, so if you’ve got something particular in mind that you’d like to do, start by asking your hosts – they’ll happily point you towards things like a public pool, pony rides and indoor play centres or to castles, nature reserves and places to eat. Lots of places of interest are within cycling distance, so bring your bikes and get ready to explore. For easy outings nearby, you might like to try walks around the Singraven estate (10 minutes’ drive), a step into the past at Openluchtmuseum Ootmarsum living museum (10 minutes) or a tour of a fairytale-like castle at Kasteel Twickel (half an hour). Or how about a trip to a whole different country? Camping de Rammelbeek is very close to the German border, so it’s easy to get over to places like Nordhorn (15 minutes) for a stroll along the banks of the canal and a visit to Tierpark Nordhorn, where more than 100 animal species live in various different zones and you can meet some at the petting zoo.
