Waterskiing, wakeboarding, sailing, canoeing, swimming, fishing… whatever your aquatic activity of choice, you’ll be able to give it a whirl at MarinaPark Bad Nederrijn. This Gelderland holiday park is in the little town of Maurik, and it’s right next to a lake that leads out to the river Nederrijn. A marina and watersports centre next door mean that this is quite the watersports haven, and there are also areas of the lake that are suitable for fishing, swimming and general splashing about – there’s even a water trampoline for the kids to bounce about on. Back on dry land, there’s a playground to provide more hours of entertainment for the kids, and there’s also the Brasserie de Loswal, which serves up meals and snacks on a spacious terrace overlooking the marina. Other facilities include bathrooms that are often praised by guests for their high standards. Here on the border of Gelderland and Utrecht you’ll be in a prime position for getting out to all sorts of attractions and activities, perhaps taking a hike, exploring by boat or pedalling along local paths on your bike (or a bike hired from the site if that’s easier). The Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park and the city of Utrecht are both within easy reach, as are lots of other day-out options including castles, animal parks and little towns to wander around.

Disliked Everything else, we’re not fussy campers but this is without doubt the worst site we’ve ever been to, to the extent that we were there for a whole 2 hours!!
It looked like a refugee camp, looked nothing like its brochure, caravans and campers literally parked on top of each other, access for anything bigger than a T5 is very difficult.
To top it off we had to be told by another guest (no warning from staff) that we shouldn’t swim as due to the low water and heat there was an algal bloom and that we couldn’t safely in the main channel as that’s where the speed boats go too fast. We even witnessed a near miss between a speedboat and 3 kids on a paddle board.
As we’re leaving another British MH had driven in taken one look at the place and was already on the way out.

We drove an hour closer to Rotterdam and found the site below on P4N
Camping recreatie park de koornmolen which is lovely, swimming pool and all services and cheaper, with great places to visit close by.

Liked Customer service from the team was excellent. Quick reply to emails and helped us with our late checking. Big size pitches for campers with an amazing view. You get a preloaded fob to use the showers and washing up service. Showers and toilet blocks were big size and clean.

Liked Het mooie uitzicht, geweldige natuur, je kon zo het water op en het vriendelijke personeel.

Disliked Het trappetje naar strandje beneden was kapot en onze plek zat redelijk ver van de stroom.

Liked Toplocatie aan het water. Schoon sanitair. Mooie omgeving om te fietsen en watersport te beoefenen.

Disliked De tourlaatsen zijn ondergeschikt qua onderhoud van de huisjes. De heggen en gras was niet gemaaid, los hout en tegels moeten verplaatsen. (Was voorheen een seizoensplaats hoorde we). En nog betalen voor warm water is oké, maar is erg duur in verhouding.

Liked Space and a lovely location. Helpful staff. Nice walks and good transport link into Utrecht
But was comfortable if not a bit basic.

Disliked Miscommunications on the fact we had no fridge despite being told there was one in our hut

Shepherd's hut

Liked Good instructions for late check in - very smooth. Cabin was warm, clean and comfortable. Had lots of kitchen equipment and some extras eg lamp, clothes dryer, lots of pans. Close to shower/toilet which were private and clean - really nice. Peaceful campsite in a lovely location. Friendly staff- very helpful.

Disliked The door handle was broken. Only shut if you locked it. This was not a big problem.
Previous occupants had not emptied the bin and so the cabin smelled of cigarettes.

Bike, boat or boots are all equally excellent ways to explore this part of the world – whichever method you choose, you should find plenty of gorgeous views out along the river or up in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park. Meanwhile, if you like your wildlife a little more exotic, you’ll need to head to Ouwehands Dierenpark (20 minutes’ drive), where you can see lions, pandas and other creatures from around the world. Sticking to classic Dutch scenery for now? Try a trip to Buren (15 minutes) or Wijk bij Duurstede (half an hour) or spend some time exploring the 17th-century manor house and landscaped gardens at Amerongen Castle (25 minutes). The fabulous city of Utrecht (35 minutes) should certainly be on your radar too – a day over there can be spent visiting the Miffy Museum and Museum Speelklok, taking an underground tour at DOMUnder or heading a little way out of town to the incredible Castle De Haar. It’s worth leaving a bit of time to explore the canals too, perhaps on a cruise or a rowing boat/canoe tour with a couple of stops at waterside cafés and restaurants along the way.
