  • Small-scale site with family-friendly facilities on the edge of woods
  • A 20-minute drive from Apeldoorn and Hoge Veluwe National Park
  • Several playgrounds and table tennis; hiking and biking nearby
Whether it’s bike rides, zoo days or forest hikes that fill your days here, it’s a carefree sort of stay at Camping de Vinkenkamp in Lieren in Gelderland, just outside of Veluwe. Surrounded by nature but close to nice villages, towns and cities such as Apeldoorn 20 minutes’ drive to the north and Arnhem half an hour’s drive to the south, there’s a good mix of both for guests to this small-scale, dog-friendly and family-friendly site. On the edge of a woodland, the site is small but sweet with good facilities, especially for kids. There are several playgrounds clearly marked out so that it’s easy for parents to keep an eye on younger ones. Table tennis is one way to spend your time on site and when it’s time to get out, there’s lots of hiking and cycling to do in the surrounding area, including nature reserves, forests and heaths. For hikes of the hilly kind further out, pick up one of Hoge Veluwe National Park’s white bicycles (20 minutes’ drive away) and get pedalling past the heaths, woodlands and sands. There are long and short walking and cycling routes for everyone in your group. If you’d rather take things at a slower place, the surrounding towns and villages will always have a terrace you could set down on for a drink or shops to wander around, or there’s the garden (with wifi) on the site itself.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained campsite praised for its friendly staff and clean facilities, including spacious pitches and good shower blocks. Guests enjoyed the beautiful countryside location, on-site restaurant, and the pool. Some visitors experienced issues with pitch flooding during heavy rain and noted soft, sandy ground. There were mixed comments on reception friendliness and the location's remoteness, with some finding it peaceful and others noisy. Opening hours for the restaurant and bar were also mentioned as a point for improvement.

Liked Me fascinó. Genial ambiente, precioso entorno.

Electric grass and earth touring caravan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Site has everything a young family could need. Showers staying in for 6mins is ideal but water could be a bit warmer.

Disliked Paying full price when the pool and soft play are out of season and unavailable to use.

The site is in the arse end of nowhere.

Electric grass and earth touring caravan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very clean and family orientated campsite. Staff were friendly and helpful. Located in countryside with plenty of walks and local history. Close to Arhem and motorway so ideal for a stop over and WWII history.

Disliked Bar and restaurant can close quite early.

Electric grass and earth touring caravan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely clean pool, nice shop, some great play areas for the kids. Big spacious pitches. It's a good spot to explore Holland. Plenty of places to explore and it's so beautiful around there. Lots of super markets nearby. Could easily have chilled days relaxing at the site. Showers very clean and warm.

Disliked The wooded area meant we had a constant drip of water from the trees. (Nature being nature) Plus the acorn tree meant a consistent debris fell onto the tent absolutely covering it in leaves and seeds etc. The ground is also very soft and sandy and periods of heavy rain caused flooding on the site but that's Holland for you. Depending on the which way the wind blew you could hear the nearby busy A50 at night.

Local attractions

No matter whether it's nature or the buzz of the city you have in mind, immerse yourself in both… for the former, you could opt for a casino night at Casino Number One (20 minutes’ drive), a visit to one of the local golf clubs (there’s one within walking distance), a game at the a.v.v. Columbia (15 minutes) or the large IMAX cinema in the city (20 minutes). For those places that are all about nature, there’s the pretty little Loenense Waterfall (five minutes) a short drive away, National Park Veluwezoom (half an hour) for some special cycles or hikes or the monkey forest at Apenheul (20 minutes). Burgers' Zoo (20 minutes) is one place to see more of the animal world, such as vultures, big cats and rhinos, but there's plenty of local wildlife that hangs out around the Bussloo Recreation Area (15 minutes), where the lakeshore is just the thing for a swim when it’s warm enough. How about the sightseeing side of things? Well, with the second biggest Van Gogh collection on the globe, Kröller-Müller Museum (half an hour) is a good place to go for that, as is the palace of Paleis Het Loo (25 minutes) and the Roman remains in the fortified city of Nijmegen (45 minutes).
