  • Peaceful family-run site with beach and Bay of Kotor sea views
  • A 20-minute drive from Herceg Novi and Perast; 40 from Kotor
  • Restaurant on site; 15 minutes' walk from cafés in Bijela
Seaside days, scuba diving and strolls around some of Montenegro’s prettiest towns… sound like a splendid schedule? Settle into a slot at Camping Zlokovic for easy access to it all from the beachside town of Bijela. First up, those seaside days… they’re supremely straightforward, as the site has its own Bay of Kotor beach, with a restaurant that juts right out over the water to provide snacks with a sea view. If you’re not content sticking to the shallows, take a look a little deeper into those gorgeous waters from the diving centre a few minutes’ walk away. And then on to those townie wanders… Montenegro’s pretty mini as countries go, so it shouldn’t take too long to get to lots of its most famed settlements. Herceg Novi and Perast are both about 20 minutes away by car, and ferries can whisk you off across the bay to drive to Kotor and Budva in less than an hour. If you’ve got rural rambles in mind, set off to climb Orjen or explore the lovely Lovcen National Park (an hour’s drive) with hikes and mountain bike escapades. And if you utter a heartfelt ‘pffft’ in the direction of such strenuous activities? Simply select an olive tree of your choice on site and settle in for a snooze before knocking your system back to life with a coffee and something sweet from one of the cafés in town (around a 15-minute walk depending on how speedy or slothful you feel…).

Local attractions

Once you’ve had a bit of time on the site’s own beach, head along to Herceg Novi (20 minutes’ drive) for outings to more cracking coastal spots. The harbour here is the place to board boats to Žanjice beach, the Blue Cave and fortress-topped Mamula Island; rent kayaks or join guided paddles if you feel the need to put in a bit of muscle power. Back on dry land, it’s worth having a good roam around Herceg Novi’s Old Town and picking up an ice cream to power you up to Kanli Kula's fortress and sea-view amphitheatre. If you need to justify a second sweet treat, head out of town to walk in the foothills of Mount Orjen; if it’s time for a tipple instead, set off for Savina Winery, just outside town and with more fab sea views. Heading in the other direction, it’s a 20-minute drive to petite Perast, a pretty village with both sea and mountain views. For some of the finest vistas in all the land, load the car onto a ferry and drive over to Kotor (40 minutes), to mosey through a maze of medieval streets and palaces that’s rather reminiscent of a mini Venice.
