  • Family-friendly site with great views in the Upper Sûre Natural Park
  • A 20-minute' drive from the museums of Wiltz and Bastogne
  • Cosy restaurant and bar with open terrace for meals, drinks and snacks
Just check out those views – rather fab, non? Take them in as you ramble or pedal your way along the trails that wend their way through the gorgeous countryside around Camping Um Bierg, or plonk down right there to gaze out over them with minimal effort from your super spot on the terraced hillside. Nippers not sharing your enthusiasm for staring at the scenery? No problem – there’s plenty to interest them too. Charging about at the playground, bounding on the trampoline or playing games of volleyball or football can all be followed by a session in the pool to cool off. Parents tasked with overseeing the fun proceedings will no doubt be chuffed to hear that they can most likely do so from the comfort of the restaurant terrace, which overlooks the pool. Amble over here at any time of day to select from the menu of main meals (using veg from the site's own organic garden), snacks, hot drinks and cakes, or pull up a chair in the cosy bar area to wind down from the day’s antics. The fine folk here will also happily provide you with fresh bread for morning eats, and organise regular sociable table d’hôte dinners where you can natter with your neighbours over a seasonal dinner and maybe a drink or few. There's also wifi on the site, but the reception is poor due to the amplifiers and the site's location on the land border of Belgium and Luxembourg. The strongest connection is in the restaurant (the site rates it reasonable to good).

Liked Grote staplaats, schoon sanitair, vriendelijk personeel, mooie omgeving, broodjes service.

Dank familie Leendertse.

Liked Nice little site in a peaceful country side location. Had everything needed including a small pool and children's play park.

The site has WiFi, however the signal is poor.

Disliked Toilet/shower facilities could do with a revamp. They were functional but not the cleanest.
Disappointing that when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon in the middle of August to be told the restaurant/ bar was closed as we were planning on using it (we were only there for 1 night). A heads up would have been nice.

Liked The site was child friendly with a swimming pool and play area. The views were gorgeous. The onsite cafe/bar was well presented and reasonably priced. The female bar lady was very nice and helpful. A communal fridge freezer was available to use. The toilet blocks were nice enough although could've done with one more down the far end. Pitches were nice and spacious.

Disliked Although the views were gorgeous, it came at a price - the location is very rural. Which, is great in general, however when it rained often as when we were there, and you need to entertain the little ones, it's a bit of an ache to go looking for things to do. The site owner/manager was extremely rude and grumpy. He had no people skills whatsoever and had no interest in being polite. There's also no obvious fresh water sources, as such you're simply refilling from bathroom or wash basin taps. The site had daily activities but seemed to be a local thing where it appeared regulars would organise between themselves and didn't seem too interested in inviting others in to it. As I just mentioned, it felt like a locals kind of site, i.e. tables for certain groups at certain times.

Liked That the campsite is near a small forest, where its nice to pick berries in the summer

Disliked We expected a relaxing stay at this campsite, but the atmosphere was cold and uninspiring from the moment we arrived. The older man who greeted us seemed irritated and showed little hospitality — certainly not the kind of welcome you expect on holiday. His constant presence around the site felt more like surveillance than service. Even when taking out the trash, he closely inspected whether we separated plastic, glass, and general waste correctly. This level of control made us uncomfortable.

The entertainment staff also made little effort to show enthusiasm. Activities felt flat and uninspiring due to the lack of energy and engagement.

The situation was so unpleasant for our family that we decided to leave a week early, even though we had already paid. Unfortunately, the owners refused any form of refund or compensation — showing a very indifferent attitude toward unhappy guests

From the manager: Hello Nick,

What a little man are you! There is a clear sign in your native language stating bulky waste isnt allowed to throw away in our bins. You wanted to dump your garden chairs in ours containers that are purely for waste bags and then you are insulted when somebody tells you no. In the Netherlands where you come from you need to bring this especially to a waste recycle dump in your city but no on our campsite you just throw it away nice and easy for you ;)
You told my father our camping isnt good for childeren because you cant make a open fire... Are you completly ok in the upper chamber? Its a campsite in the highseason full with people all looking to have nice holiday and you are looking for a place where you can just live freely and do anything you like. Now 2 weeks later from the safe comfort behind your keyboard you dare to write all these things.

When you made the booking you automaticly agree to our general terms which are also send to you by email stating that we dont give money back when you decide to leave. Especially when something is not to your liking King Nick. The other 250 people do like a bit of structure and that also shows in our other reviews.

Lets no forget that you arrived together with your very nice friend and he left a couple of days earlier and you couldnt stop talking about how he has a negative influence and upbringing on his kid because it needed to be so much more free. What a friend are you. I do hope your friend also reads this so he knows who he is dealing with. Normally we wouldnt react with all these details but unfortunatly you left us no choice. A campsite has rules and if you dont like them, dont come!

Liked Absolutely lovely welcome, and all around excellent restaurant staff and food.

The kids play area kept our two happy for the duration... pool was a little bracing as there had been a cold spell but still lovely and refreshing.

Close to lovely foot/cycle paths down to the village.

Very clean facilities and all around lovely stay

Disliked Other guests... one nearby didn't put their dog on a lead and it had a clear out next to our pitch and our neighbours for one night set up far too close, and were quite noisy and their tobacco smoke wafted into our tent while we were trying to sleep. Not the fault of the campsite but perhaps reminders of basic campsite rules on arrival would help

Local attractions

Bring your bike or your boots – the scenery of the Upper Sûre Natural Park is bound to entice you out to cover many miles on its network of trails. Make it as far as the vast Upper Sûre lake eight kilometres away and you can reward your efforts with a swim or a spot of canoeing, sailing or windsurfing. A 20-minute drive away in Wiltz there’s a handsome castle and several museums dedicated to the events of World War II. Those fond of a decent tipple may also like to check out the National Brewery Museum and microbrewery, in the castle’s old stable block. If you’re interested in learning more about the war and the role this area played, nip over the Belgian border to Bastogne (20 minutes’ drive) for visits to the Bastogne War Museum and the 101st Airborne Museum.
