Looking for a quiet spot to bed down on the Baltic coastline? Keen on beach walks, but also happy to have lots of urban distractions to keep you busy? Campsite 37A might well fit the bill, as it’s a leafy, rural site minutes’ walk from the sea at Karklė – famed for its long sandy stretch – but also near the holiday hotspots of Klaipėda (20 minutes) and Palanga (15 minutes). The small number of grass pitches on this family-run site are partially shaded by tall trees, and simple facilities include electric hook-ups, a standpipe for water and a waste-disposal point. Camping guests are welcome to use the pristine shower cabin, and you can cook up a storm on the barbecue, cosy up around the firepit or eat at outdoor picnic tables. Occasional craft courses take place at the site (you can book up on arrival if there’s something you like the sound of), and the owners sell wild flowers grown in the surrounding fields.

Liked Friendly welcome. Lots of space. Storks in the trees. Quiet and peaceful. Perfectly situated along the e9 baltic trail near curonian spit. Very clean toilet block.

Liked Very nice and peaceful place and clean.

Disliked A nice little cattle would be very preferable. Also a kitchen. For solo travelers would be nice to have charging station for mobile phones, or other electronic devices.

Liked We enjoyed staying at this campaign, wonderful place - nature, barbeque provided, wonderful inside and outdoor shower and WC, super clean. As the storm was approaching, manager didn't mind to change booking for the next day (without extra charge).

Local attractions

If you’re travelling with kids, the first stop on your Baltic break will probably be the beach. Backed by cliffs, Karklė’s spectacular swathe of sand stretches (five minutes’ walk) for miles, and is a popular spot for swimming, dog walking and kayaking. Close by is Giruliai Beach (10 minutes’ drive), with lifeguards on duty in summer and a few restaurants. The historic seaside town of Klaipėda (20 minutes) is dotted with half-timbered houses and abuzz with waterside restaurants and bars, as well as a cluster of museums including the Lithuanian Sea Museum and Klaipėda Sculpture Park, dedicated to vast Soviet-style statuary. It’s also a gateway to hiking and sailing adventures on the Curonian Spit, a short ferry ride away. Popular Palanga (15 minutes) is famed as a seaside resort, with a long sandy beach; have a dip in the sea (in summer anyway), and be sure to visit the Amber Museum, housed in a grand 19th-century mansion. After dark, eat al fresco along lively Basanavičiaus Street, and catch the sound-and-light show at the Musical Fountain.
