  • Friendly site 20 minutes' bus ride from Venice
  • Professional staff and a wide range of facilities
  • Pool, hot tub, solarium, internet café, bar and restaurant
Might the thought of saving significant dosh on a holiday to the fab city of Venice plant a beaming grin on your visage? That's the clever thinking behind friendly and budget Jolly Camping in Town, 20 minutes by bus from the famed old canals of the city via the landing spot of the Piazzale Roma. If you're frazzled from city days, make a chilled out time your mission when back at base, either on one of the many sun loungers or quiet spots, or while bubbling gently in the hot tub. Table tennis tables and two pools for swimming and games are around for those who seek a slightly more active time. Or… you could just toddle along to the Ciao Bella bar and restaurant: both are open all day, for Italian-style breakfasts, pizzas, salads and other snacks as well as full Italian meals, against a backdrop of music and good service. The friendly team has also added an internet café to hang around at too, a supermarket if you really do want to keep an eye on the euros, and well-kept amenities including toilets and showers, washing machines, dryers and a luggage room.

1 bedroom static caravan

Liked: The lodge/caravan we booked was very comfortable & clean. The site shop was well stocked even if a little expensive (like most campsite shops). The site was clean and peaceful.

Disliked: Restaurants in Bar were terrible! The staff were short & service slow. We did stay at this location a few years ago, the bar & restaurant was great then. After main when plates been cleaned I asked the waiter for dessert. He took the order (reluctantly) and then went to the bar & we watched him serve several couples & then play on his phone. A staff male turned up (maybe own) turned up & then directed the other 3 staff to clear the marquee area as a large group had just cleared out. This left 12 tables with people at with only the male & another female at the bar. We felt abandoned. We then decided to leave after waiting 15 minutes, our waiter still at the bar. He made it clear he wasn’t happy as he was just about to get our desserts. No he wasn’t, the fridge with the desserts was 12 feet from our table a good 40 feet from him. We stayed 4 nights & never went back to the restaurant again.

Reception staff were rude on arrival, but I think this was because there was only one male staff member on, 3 empty desks & a long queue of people checking in. Had a small issue at first with the room, went back to reception, same guy booking someone else in, young female appeared from back office, I got her attention and she said “back in one minute”. Waited 15 minutes, never saw the female again, the male staff member looked exhausted but dealt with the issue straight away & had handyman at the room with 10 minutes & fixed the issue.

Electric gravel and earth pitch

Liked: This was the best budget friendly we have been over our 11 day holiday (we been over 5 campsites), it had everything, the facilities were great, the staff was great, they even had a shuttle directly to Venice! we end up staying two nights, it had everything we needed! the showers were clean, the toilets clean, they had paper towels next to the sinks, soap, after this you would be surprise how much was lacking in other campsites - some didn't even had toilet paper or hot water or soap!
Absolutely loved this place! Def coming again, Venice is my happy place, always brings a smile to my face and this campsite as made the experience even more wholesome.

Disliked: Din't appear to have actual grass pitches, but I didn't mind

Local attractions

A 20-minute coach trip will take you to Venice's Piazzale Roma, the main gateway to the city for buses, taxis and trams. From here, trip over the stone small bridge to get to the centre of Venice and St Mark's Square in about 40 minutes (follow the yellow and black signs to San Marco, up above on several street corners along the way). If you'd rather hail a vaporetto (water bus), pick up a ticket at the Hellovenezia office near Calatrava Bridge to catch vaporetti all over Venice. It's cheaper to get a tourist travel card than to journey on a pay as you go basis if you're in town for longer than a day, especially if you're venturing further to the Venice Lagoon islands such as Burano or the glassmaking centre of Murano; visit these as the sun sets for spectacular vistas over the water. Leather, glassware and jewellery stalls and shops are abundant on the Rialto Bridge and the streets lining it to and from St Mark's Square. You'll also easily be able to sort a gondola ride from here; just ask one of the gondoliers what their price is – and be sure to establish what that includes, as some of the cheaper rides don't take in all the main sights.
