  • Hillside Umbria campsite with woodland pitches and valley views
  • Direct access to Villa Montesca gardens; 25 minutes’ drive to Montone
  • Swimming pool and volleyball nets, bar and terrace restaurant on site
With a location to sigh over in the hills above Città di Castello, near Perugia, Umbria Camp is a wonderfully peaceful spot. Its shaded pitches sit underneath maple, lime, horse chestnut and mature oak trees, with views down the slopes of Mount to the Upper Tiber Valley. On site all is set up for family holidays, with a lazy pace of life and Alta Valle del Tevere views from the swimming pool, which has a relaxing massage waterfall for parents and a paddling pool for the bambini. Other handy distractions on site include an artificial beach acting as a playground for the kids, with volleyball nets and facilities for soccer and tennis – the area is lit up at night, which is handy if you fancy saving your games for times when the air is cooler. Come dinner time, you can choose self-catering on the barbecue or abandon cooking to join fellow guests at the on-site restaurant, housed in an old lemon house now elegantly transformed into a restaurant serving local dishes and wood-fired pizzas. There’s a bar on the terrace (again with those fantastic views) that offers daily breakfasts and snacks to keep everybody going during the day.

Local attractions

You’re surrounded by greenery and staggering views wherever you look at Umbria Camp, and you certainly don’t need to go very far to commune with nature, as next door at 19th-century Villa Montesca, there’s a botanic garden with nature trails through arboretums and formal English-style landscaped gardens. If you fancy something a bit harder on the legs, you’re in the right place for hiking on all levels of trail – the expert staff at Umbria Camp can advise on routes and what to see. They will also provide itineraries for family cycling trips and challenging mountain-bike routes through hilly terrain, or you can get out on the water at the Canoa Club Città di Castello (five minutes’ drive) for paddling adventures along the River Tiber. For a taster of wonder-filled Umbrian cities, Perugia (50 minutes), Assisi (an hour) and Montone (25 minutes) are all close by too, if you’d care to spend a couple of days discovering sublime architecture and great art in their galleries. And of course, wherever you go in Umbria, you can tuck into tempting plates of pasta in classic trattorias.
