Spread over a Maremma hillside near Grosseto in Tuscany, BeVedetta Lodges aims to provide the ultimate in glamorous safari tent escapes tucked into an olive grove surrounded by woods. Here you can really get in touch with nature while relishing all the comforts of a fancy hotel break, with pretty much every conceivable luxury on hand in robust, weatherproof units stretching over an area of 50 square metres. Each luxury safari tent is furnished with great care at this adults-only site – it's just the spot for a romantic couples-only weekend; you’ll lay your heads on feather pillows in gigantic beds, accompanied by the sound of leaves rustling in the wind. Ensuite bathrooms all have powerful showers, there’s heating and air conditioning to keep the temperature just right, and you'll have a coffee and cappuccino machine for that all-important caffeine boost. A TV is supplied with Sky and wifi so you can stay connected with the outside world (if you so wish…). Come the evening, grab a glass of something chilled from the mini-bar and settle down in a comfy armchair for truly spectacular sunset views – either to the Ligurian Sea or over the Tuscan countryside – from the covered decking. If you should ever be able to drag yourself away from the views, the site owner is more than happy to help you organise wine tours, rent sports gear or book sun loungers down at Carbonifera Beach (20 minutes’ drive).

Local attractions

BeVedetta is a springboard for sports activities down on the coast – anything from diving to sailing, kitesurfing and windsurfing. If you’d rather be somewhere more peaceful, you’ll find a choice of secluded sandy coves like Cala Violina (20 minutes’ drive), reached by forest path, or Cala Civette (15 minutes), accessed by wading across the shallow Alma river. If birdwatching is your thing, then take a walk in Padule di Scarlino nature reserve (10 minutes), where you may spot marsh harriers and other rare birds of prey. Inland it’s possible to go mountain biking, e-biking (remember those hills), pony trekking and hiking in the untamed Regional Park of Maremma (straight from site). While you’re there, keep an eye out for the Maremma cows and Amiata donkeys that graze freely on the scrubby pastureland. Prefer your pastimes with a more cultural vibe? Book tickets for the summer 'Lirica in Piazza' concerts in a lovely square in Massa Marittima (25 minutes) or pay a visit to the stripy cathedral in Grosseto (40 minutes) and tour the Etruscan ceramics and medieval statuary in the Museo Archeologico e d’Arte della Maremma.
