General

  • Wooded park on the banks of the Arno river, 5km from central Florence
  • Cycle into the historic city centre on a quiet riverside bike path
  • Two swimming pools overlooked by sun terrace and restaurant/bar

It’s an excellent idea to bring a bike if you’re staying at Camping Village Firenze – a dedicated cycle path runs along the banks of the Arno river from here for a safe, swift and scenic ride into the centre of Florence. Travelling light? No problem – adult and kids’ bikes can be hired on site.

This lovely tree-filled park is in the Rovezzano area of Florence, five kilometres from the city centre. If you’re not keen on pedalling, a shuttle bus will transport you to the historic centre to take in all the famed sights, museums and galleries (too many to list, and too many to cram into one visit – best be planning to head into town a few times if you can).

Cycled or museum-ed out after your day trip? Cool off back at base with a dip in one of the pools (a most welcome sight on a hot day in the city): dive into the main pool for an energetic swim, or have a more gentle splash about in the leisure pool, with fountains and other fun things to mess about with. Poolside basking is also an option, either on the loungers around the sun terrace or with drinks on the bar terrace that handily overlooks the water.

And it’s not just drinks on offer at the bar... it’s also open in the mornings for a breakfast buffet (extra charge) and later serves up a menu of Italian classics at lunch and dinner, including some particularly fine pizzas. There’s also a very well stocked mini market on site.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/05 and 01/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Large professionally run camp with good facilities 18/09/2018

This is a big camp right in the centre and is easy to find. It has two lovely pools (one for children). It’s clean with lovely washrooms and professionally run.

It’s close to the beautiful city of Florence with a shuttle bus into the city for €3 per person.

    Disliked:

The shuttle into the city is a great advantage. Unfortunately no one appears to queue in Italy, so there’s a real battle to get on the bus, despite your order of arrival at the stop! One ‘customer’ was slapped across the chest by the driver for attempting to get his family and their pushchair on the bus!

The site is right in town, so it is a little noisy with young people and there’s road noise too, but this seems to blend into the background after a while. :)

Everything the almost perfect camp site highly recommendable.
In a few years when the trees have grown a bit there will be more shade.
Otherwise a great place to stay with an hourly shuttle bus to the city center.
also a well stocked shop with. Very reasonable prices fresh bread and vegatables every day. The resataurant is very good we found the food good and reasonably priced.

Local attractions

It’d be a fine idea to plan several days out in central Florence, allowing you to see all the top sights without having to race around too much. The Uffizi gallery can fill a day on its own, and you’ll no doubt also want to be seeing the cathedral (which had the world’s largest dome at the time of its design), the Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Vecchio, Giotto’s bell tower, the medieval Santa Croce church, Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia Gallery…

All that history and art can become a little overwhelming if crammed into a short space of time, so make sure to factor in a bit of downtime – perhaps with a cruise down the Arno river on a traditional wooden boat or a stroll through the gorgeous Boboli and Bardini gardens (particularly fine places to be around sunset for their city skyline views).

For a change of scenery, it’ll take you around an hour to get to Siena or Arezzo by car. Similarly, the wineries around San Gimignano are about an hour’s drive away.
