- Peaceful park on Mount Etna slopes five minutes’ drive from Nicolosi
- Etna ski resorts 20 minutes’ drive; UNESCO-listed Catania 40 minutes
- Restaurant, bar and communal barbecues; raptor displays and pony rides
There’s a rather special setting for Parsifal Park; this peaceful and leafy touring site sits 700 metres up on the slopes of Mount Etna, within a woodland rich in ancient trees and crossed by the lava flow of 1910. Have a wander around the property and you’ll discover rock formations and lava caves swathed in mosses, lichens and ferns – and it just keeps on giving, as there are sterling views of the volcano too.
This family-run site is five minutes’ drive from Nicolosi in Catania and has all the facilities you need for relaxing stays, from electrical hook-ups to a play area, communal barbecues and picnic tables. There are pristine modern shower rooms, a laundry room and a fully equipped kitchen to make longer visits a breeze too. Stock up on food at supermarkets just five minutes by car.
It’s 40 minutes’ drive to Catania beaches – and as the site is open all year round, how about escaping the cold of winter and basking on your spacious pitch in the warm Sicilian sun? Bring your ski boots with you, as Etna ski resorts are about 20 minutes away by car.
The owners have worked for years to transform their little slice of paradise into a sustainable educational park; there are trails to follow through the grounds and you can watch birds of prey flying displays or go horse riding (both an extra charge) to help you reconnect with nature while staying on site.

Local attractions
You can’t really avoid Mount Etna (10 minutes’ drive) when staying at Parsifal Park – just look up and it’s there… you can go trekking in its foothills, take a cable car from Rifugio Sapienza (20 minutes’ drive) up to 2,500 metres for guided jeep tours, or wrestle with the challenging Pista Altomontana mountain biking track (55 minutes) and ski down the volcano in winter.
Another bucket-list Sicilian attraction is the coastal city of Catania (40 minutes), UNESCO-listed for its magnificent baroque architecture. Try to see the handsome cathedral, ornate Palazzo Biscari and the wonderfully OTT Basilica della Collegiata – and don’t miss the elephant shaped out of black lava in Piazza Duomo.
If you’re travelling with kids, they’ll no doubt be more impressed by the waterpark and rollercoasters at Etnaland (half an hour); alternatively you can spend family days on the black and rocky lava beach at Pozzillo or the golden sands at Plaia (both 40 minutes).
