Now see this for a serene seaside holiday in Sicily… peaceful Camping Almoetia is in mild and sunny climes, in a spacious woodland setting an easy half-kilometre from the Ionian Sea. The terraced pitches here are generously sized and have plenty of room for all your kit: you'll probably want to bring bikes, watersports bits, beach towels aplenty and your comfiest walking boots for getting out around this lush part of north-eastern coast… The grounds cover two hectares if you'd rather wander around site instead, seeking your own serene spot. Almoetia is less than 10 minutes' drive or within simple cycling distance of Calatabiano, 60 metres above sea level and about 58 kilometres from ancient Messina. Old sites and sights galore are easily reached from here, such as Catania, Syracuse and Italy's oldest active volcano Mount Etna, all within an hour's drive; Calatabiano is also part of the Alcantara canyons, gorges and river park area for nature days and hikes. Facilities include a play area, a TV room and a shop. There are toilets and showers, charging facilities, ice pack freezing and gas cylinder sales; barbecues and campfires are both allowed.

This is a quiet, spacious campsite with friendly and helpful owners. Pitches are large, mostly flat and shaded. The toilet and shower facilities are generally clean, with free hot showers, although some minor maintenance is noted. It is conveniently located a short walk from a pebble beach and offers a good base for excursions. While the on-site restaurant and shop were noted as closed by some, essentials were available. The damaged beach promenade is being addressed by the municipality.

Liked Sehr großer Stellplatz. Wir wurden nett empfangen der Besitzer hat uns Zitronen aus dem eigenen Garten geschenkt. Die sanitär anlagen waren ok. Der Strand ist nur 10 min mit dem Rad entfernt

Disliked Leider wurde die Strandpromenade komplett vom Regen zerstört

Es freut uns sehr, dass Sie den großen Stellplatz, den Empfang und auch die Zitronen aus unserem Garten geschätzt haben 😊 Ebenso sind wir froh, dass Ihnen die Nähe zum Strand gefallen hat.

Bezüglich der Strandpromenade möchten wir gerne kurz informieren: Leider wurde dieser Bereich durch einen außergewöhnlich starken Zyklon und die heftigen Regenfälle stark beschädigt. Die Instandsetzung liegt in der Verantwortung der Gemeinde, die bereits an den notwendigen Maßnahmen arbeitet, um alles so schnell wie möglich wiederherzustellen.

Wir hoffen sehr, Sie bald wieder bei uns begrüßen zu dürfen – vielleicht bei Ihrer nächsten Reise mit noch schönerer Promenade!

Liked La zona è bella con la spiaggia di San Marco a 400 metri a piedi (attenzione alla strada trafficata) ed il campeggio con piazzole spaziose e pulite ed abbastanza in piano. Gestori disponibili e riservati. I servizi ampi sufficientemente curati, docce calde comprese nel prezzo senza limiti, qualche manutenzione alle porte che non si chiudono necessarie. Ombreggiato per lo più sotto alberi ma c'è il vento secco la sera che asciuga eventuali accappatoi e asciugamani del mare.
Direi tra i 4 campeggi frequentati in Sicilia nel nostro tour è stato il migliore!

Local attractions

From food to nature to history to more food (well, it's Sicily), you'll find heaps to do around the island and the site surroundings. Golden beaches, clear waters and boat trips around Sicily's islands are easy to sort from here too. Start off at local town Calatabiano to see its ninth-century Arab and Norman castle high up above the town, reachable via a funicular railway lift and with spectacular views over the island (settle down in the restaurant to take your time drinking these in). You can hike back down to the town from here along the track past the church, to come out at the villlage square for a drink or a coffee. From Calatabiano, it's about 50 minutes' drive or just over an hour and a half by bus to reach Messina, the ancient settlement on Sicily's north-eastern tip. Among the many sights here are the 12th-century cathedral, the Palazzo Calapaj, the 16th-century San Ranieri lighthouse, and the old gate of the Porta Grazia, a fortress still standing at Messina's harbour. The Galleria d'Arte Contemporanea di Messina, showcasing contemporary works owned by the city, is a popular stop for arty sorts.
