Views of abundant citrus groves make a gorgeous backdrop to an outdoor stay in Sicily… but when the unmistakable outline of Mount Etna also appears on the horizon – well, that’s something special. And the special location in question is Il Pampaleone Glamping and Resort, on the island’s eastern coast about 15 minutes’ drive from Acireale. ‘On the coast’ here means exactly that – there’s direct access to a pebble beach from the site, and sea views from several parts of the property. One of those parts is the swimming pool area, which has a main seawater pool, a kids’ pool, a kiosk for cool drinks and sun loungers where you can sunbathe in comfort. With Etna being such a big presence at this site, you’re bound to want to get out to see it more closely – and you’ll be in prime position to do so, being about 20 minutes’ drive from the edge of the Parco dell’Etna and with numerous guided tours around to join if you like. You’ll also easily be able to take day trips to Catania or Taormina (both within an hour’s drive) or just chill out on beaches like Fondachello (around 20 minutes away). There are lots of great places to eat in the nearby towns and rural areas, but you don’t have to travel far for a good meal if you don't want to, as the site has its own café and pizzeria for guests only.

Liked Wide open shaded pitches, plenty of hooks ups, flat. Friendly staff. Great pool. Nice cafe and excellent pizza. Washing machine €3 per hour. Fantastic views of Mount Etna especially for us as it was very active. A quiet relaxing few days. Excellent wi-fi.

Disliked Like most similar sites the showers/toilets are basic and functional. They are clean. Could do with upgrading. They do smell quite strongly, not helped by open water troughs running under showers. There is no on site shop and nearest store a few miles away.

Liked Very friendly and accommodating staff and a very clear site. Excellent pool that was large enough not to be crowded. On site cafe is of good quality (don't expect fine dinning!). They tell you that the WIFI is stronger along the road that runs through the site but we found that it was strong enough to stream on our pitch which was some way away from the road which was excellent.

The beech is rocky but would be good for snorkeling (it was a bit rough when we were there to find out).

Be aware that if you are looking for restaurants outside the campsite then they are limited. We found some good ones in the next village to the north and one two villages south.

Disliked The site could really do with a shop (they do not say that they have one so we knew this in advance) selling the basics.

We also felt that the on site cafe (which is next to the pool) could be open longer (it closed between the end of lunch and the start of dinner) as that would mean that you could buy drinks whilst the pool was open.

Liked nice site with plenty of shade if that's what you wanted.bar was ok ,a great pool. would have rated more if I didn't have to wait over an hour for a pizza although it was delicious.

Liked Un posto incantevole, curato nei dettagli, piscine enormi con affaccio sul mare e bar che offre cornetti freschi ogni mattina e pizzeria la sera. Ideale per chi desidera staccare la spina, con spiagge vicine mozzafiato e paesi da scoprire come Acicastello. Facilissimo da raggiungere anche l'Etna che ci ha regalato una giornata unica ! Staff super cordiale, ci hanno dato moltissimi consigli super utili.

Liked Ich habe mich sehr wohlgefühlt. Meinen Stellplatz durfte ich mir selber aussuchen und er war sehr gross unter Schatten spendenden Bäumen. Das ganze Personal war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Keine Frage war zuviel und es gab Ausflugstipps ohne Ende. Von der Rezeption bis zum Pool fühlte ich mich gut aufgehoben. Ein riesen Dankeschön an alle.
Für das leibliche Wohl war auch bestens gesorgt. Die Pizzas vom Chef eine Gaumenfreude und für den kleinen Hunger jederzeit einen sizilianischen Snack.
Der Platz war sehr ruhig gelegen und ein echter Erholungsort.
Macht weiter mit eurem großartigen Charme. Für mich war es genau richtig.

Liked Jede Menge Platz, sehr schön mit Meerblick. Sehr freundliches Personal!
Sehr ruhig, bis auf die Nachbarhunde die ihren Job als Wachhunde auch in der Nacht ausgeübt haben.😅

Disliked Duschbereich sauber aber es dauerte sehr lange, bis heißes Wasser kam, dann nur noch heiß, ohne dass man kälteres dazumischen kann.

Local attractions

The nearby town of Acireale (15 minutes’ drive) is a nice place to wander around, with a gorgeous cathedral, some ornate churches and a couple of good museums. A little further south, Catania (half an hour) is the island’s second-largest city and therefore packed with things to do and places to eat. The Roman amphitheatre, Ursino Castle and Palazzo Biscari are among the top picks. There’s more wonderful heritage to see in Taormina (45 minutes), home to another fabulous amphitheatre and sights like the Villa Comunale and the white marble Chiesa di San Giuseppe. The town has a lively beach too, or you can climb Monte Tauro for sweeping coastal views. Zafferana Etnea (20 minutes) is your gateway to Parco dell’Etna, with all sorts of tours on offer including sunset hikes, wine tasting outings and jeep trips. You can visit the park on your own too, but a guide is mandatory if you want to get to the volcano’s summit. Gole dell’Alcantara Gorge (35 minutes) is another good option for scenery-seekers.
