So which beach to choose for lazy days in the Sardinian sun? Foxi Manna (15 minutes’ drive) has a strip of soft sand and is backed by craggy cliffs; it's good for snorkelling in pristine waves and there are a couple of beach bars to keep you fed and watered. Surrounded by pine forest, Museddu beach (20 minutes) is good for kitesurfing, and if you have canine chums with you, there’s a dog-friendly beach about the same distance away too. Tortoli (40 minutes) is a lively town liberally sprinkled with shops and restaurants; close by is the seaside hamlet of Arbatax (half an hour), known for the deep red hues of its coastal rock formations. For spectacular views back to the coast, head into the hills to Baunei (45 minutes), a historic town that clings to a limestone ridge. Grab a coffee at a terrace bar and settle down to gaze over forested the landscape to the sea. If you’d rather do your exploring on foot, you can hike to the natural rock cave at Sa Perda Stampada in 45 minutes from Foxi Manna beach; your reward will be more amazing views along the coastline.
