If you’re off to the Ancona coast for a seaside holiday, well, you want to be as close as possible to the beach, right? Stay at L’Oasi di Lulù and you’ll be only about 300 metres from Marzocca’s beach – that means it’s only about five minutes’ walk from pitch to paddling in the sea (and there’s access via a convenient underpass too, so you can avoid any road crossing if you like…) This is a great beach to be close to – it stretches out for several kilometres, so there’s plenty of space for both serviced and free areas. It’s a family-friendly place too, with slowly shelving shallow water along the shoreline that’s great for kids to paddle or swim in. Several restaurants and cafés are scattered along the shoreline, so you’ll be able to pick up snacks, drinks and meals to keep you going on a beach day. Life on site tends to be pretty peaceful, as the location is a little way away from Marzocca’s town centre (which is about a kilometre away when you want to hit the shops or find more places to eat) and livelier Senigallia (about 20 minutes away by car, bike or public transport). All pitches have an electric hookup (available for an extra fee) and have access to two bathroom blocks with coin-operated showers. In a bid to keep all ages happy, the site has a playground with swings, a slide and a trampoline to amuse the kids, and a bar where the grownups can source themselves a well-earned cool beer.

Local attractions

Once you’ve had a bit of a swim/sunbathe/stroll at your local patch of beach, perhaps it’s time to set off to see a bit more of this stretch of coastline. A good place to start is Senigallia (20 minutes’ drive/bus ride), which is famed for its ‘Velvet’ beach (so called because of the lovely golden sand). The Rotonda a Mare, Chiesa della Croce and 15th-century Rocca Roveresca are all worth visiting too while you’re in town. Heading in the other direction, Ancona (half an hour’s drive/bus ride) has more grand buildings to seek out, including the cathedral and Roman amphitheatre, as well as an archaeological museum. It’s also the ferry port for services to Greece, Croatia and Albania; if you’re not planning to travel quite that far, maybe head to the lovely beach of Portonovo (40 minutes’ drive) instead. Away from the coast, there are caves to explore at Grotte di Osimo (35 minutes), animals to meet at Parco Zoo Falconara (15 minutes) and several wineries to wander around.
