As the second-largest lake in Italy, Lake Maggiore has a lot of fabulous views to take in – and you’ll be well placed to explore them all when you stay at Area Sosta Camper Germignaga. In fact, one of the views is right there in front of you, as this site sits right on the lakeshore on the edge of Luino. Working on the principle that you don't need heaps of entertainment when the scenery’s this good, this is a fairly simple site that focuses on the essentials you’ll need for a comfortable break – whether you're travelling with family, friends, your partner, your dog or just your good self. What that means in practice is that you shouldn’t come here expecting swimming pools and bingo nights, but instead a peaceful spot where you can soak up some of that scenery for a while. Facilities include toilets, showers, wifi, a washing-up area and a chemical disposal point, and the whole site is securely fenced for guests’ security. Want to do a bit more than just look at the lake? Handily, there's access to the water at a boat ramp and beach area just a few metres away, and you can board ferries a couple of kilometres away for jaunts to the opposite shore too. Luino town centre, about a kilometre away, also has a railway station, a Wednesday market and plenty of places to shop and eat.

Disliked Toilette eine Katastrophe genauso die Dusche, nicht sauber. Nur eine Dusche und die draußen , offen , keine Umkleidemöglichkeit, alles aus Wellpappe zusammengenagelt.
Hätten wir keine Anzahlung geleistet wäre wir weitergefahren.
Nicht mal im Notfall zu empfehlen.

Liked The owner only spoke Italian and tried well to communicate with us

Disliked We arrived late at night, it felt like we were entering a construction zone with the fences. We were charged an additional fee on a hand written note for arriving after 10pm. There was no hand soap and no provision for toilet paper in the bathrooms, these said bathrooms had rotten spongy floors so you had to be careful where you stood.

Liked De ontvangst van een hele vriendelijke eigenaar, hij spreekt alleen Italiaans. Hij heeft ons geholpen met de camper op de plaatst te zetten en ook toen we weer gingen was hij heel behulpzaam. De wc was schoon de douche op de camping hebben we niet gebruikt.

Disliked De ligging aan een drukke weg waar erg hard gereden wordt. s’nachts een stuk rustiger dus geen overlast van het verkeer gehad.

Liked We lived this campsite, due to its uniqueness. The owner cared for us and treated us well. We enjoyed a coffee in the morning and had a beautiful view. The facilities are small and limited but the location is magical. You can see Lago Maggiore from the outdoor shower. A refreshing cold shower in the summer was all I needed. A great stop for us. Lovely friendly people were also with us at the campsite. They had great stories to tell. If you have high standards then this may not be for you but this was our favourite stop on our roadtrip :)

Local attractions

Once you’re parked up on site, start your lake exploration with a stroll along the lakeside promenade and around the historic centre of Luino – it’s at its best during the lively Wednesday market, but the Palazzo Verbiana cultural centre is worth visiting at any time. To stretch your legs a little further, follow the walking/cycle path inland to the Valcuvia area or seek out longer trails like the Pizoni di Laveno and Sasso del Ferro routes (both about half an hour's drive away). The ferry connections in Luino mean it could hardly be easier to have a few days of criss-crossing the lake to see some of what's on the other side – some of the highlights include the town of Stresa, with its Belle Époque buildings, and the splendid gardens at Villa Taranto. Boat trips to Isola Bella and the other Borromean Islands are always popular too. Back on your own side of the lake, look out for Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso (half an hour’s drive), built directly into the cliff face, or take a drive to Lugano (40 minutes) for some more lake scenery and a dip into the Swiss side of the area.
