- Quiet touring site five kilometres from the A1 motorway to Milan
- A 15-minute drive from San Colombano al Lambro; 20 minutes from Lodi
- On-site bar, pizzeria and restaurant serving local dishes
Planning to float around Lombardy's green hills, vineyards and historic cities? You’ll surely want a base that’s well-positioned for all three. That's Lago Venere, a quiet touring site 15 minutes’ drive from San Colombano al Lambro (ticking off hills and vineyards, plus a castle).
Five kilometres after leaving the A1 highway between Milan and Bologna (at the Casalpusterlengo exit), you’ll be at this green setting. Strategically, it's a really good spot to be in, with supermarkets 15 minutes’ drive away, and more cities within a short drive: Lodi at 20 minutes, Piacenza at 35, Pavia at 50 and Milan at an hour.
It’s also rather relaxing, with plenty of greenery around and two small lakes (one for sport fishing). Sorting out your food and drink is an on-site bar, pizzeria and restaurant, with a menu of local dishes (including several delicious seafood variations), aperitifs, breakfasts and dinners. The pitches at Lago Venere all have electric and water supplies, plus toilet drainage, and access to shared facilities including hot showers, bathrooms, a launderette and wifi.
Having so many amenities on site means you should have plenty of time on your hands to get to know this scenic, sloping part of northern Italy. Local and cycling trails are in plentiful supply; recommendations from the site include the San Colombano-Monteleone-Miradolo route and the San Colombano al Lambro trail past vineyards and old churches.
The site’s actually on the edge of Livraga, where there’s a church, a small shop and places to eat within walking distance of the site. Further on, around three minutes’ drive away, is a museum about local rural life and labour (Museo Del Lavoro Povero).

Local attractions
Which dreamy Italian city will you make your first stop? Will it be Milan (an hour’s drive), so big that you might have trouble deciding exactly what to do in one day? It'll surely be hard to turn down the idea of visiting the Gothic cathedral or seeing Leonardo da Vinci’s painting The Last Supper at Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie.
A closer city is Lodi (20 minutes), smaller but full of churches and a large cathedral. Piazza della Vittoria is its central point; down a narrow street from there is Tempio Civico della Beata Vergine Incoronata, considered a must-see for its Renaissance architecture.
There are plenty of historic sights to see across Piacenza (35 minutes), too, from its medieval Gothic palace to its basilica with 17th-century frescoes. For something a little different, you could head to the violin museum in Cremona (45 minutes). Pavia (50 minutes) is another fine city stop, home to a Renaissance monastery.
