- Small family-run site on the northern shore of spectacular Lake Como
- Public transport to local villages stops just outside the site
- Bar serving coffee, cold drinks and tasty local cuisine
With beaut views out over Lake Como, a super friendly family team, well-manicured grounds, spotless sanitary amenities and a washing-up area you could probably eat your dinner off (not recommended), as well as easy proximity to fine sights around Como city and the historic villas of Balbianello and Serbellonii, a stay at Camping North Wind – and sightseeing around its locale – should be a breeze.
This is a small and scenic spot in the town of Domaso, on the northern shore of Lake Como and around 55 kilometres from the city of its namesake Como, where all manner of city attractions await: a Gothic Cathedral and Torre Gattoni – where inventor of the electrical battery and discoverer of methane Alexander Volta carried out his experiments – plus activities like highly scenic funicular railway rides and strolls along its waterfront promenade.
The site is set among a greenly scenic area close to the lake and a short distance from the beach and fine turquoise waters of Lake Como, with water-based pursuits such as sailing, surf lessons and fishing all within simple reach of your boat, board or rod.
Whenever you’re feeling low on fuel a small and modern bar is at the site entrance for coffee, cooling drinks and tasty local dishes… Or should you instead seek sustenance elsewhere – or a spot of town sightseeing – restaurants, pizzerias and supermarkets are plentiful around North Wind’s local town of Domaso, and several of the site’s closest lakeside villages are reachable via a public transport pootle, with a bus stopping right outside the park. Otherwise, Milan is about an hour-and-45 minutes’ drive south.
The washing-up, toilet and coin-operated shower amenities here are consistently hailed by happy previous guests as ‘immaculate’, ‘spotless’ and ‘well-maintained’ and – how superly eco-friendly – their hot water supply is provided by a modern solar energy system.

Settled on Lake Como’s most northern point, Camping North Wind is splendidly set for active holidays both on land and in the water. Fishing, surf lessons and canoeing are all available very nearby, but for whenever you’d prefer to remain planted on terra firma, hiking, climbing and mountain biking are good options around the lake and surrounding mountains during the summer months. If you’re around here in winter, skiing and snowshoeing are excellent adrenalised alternatives. For a quieter spell, take in the lake views and head to a nearby lakeview restaurant to sample the cuisine of local villages.
For more of an urbanised vibe, the site is well set to explore northern Italy and Como and Milan, as well as Switzerland, with its border a super short and handy drive away. Comely Como is around an hour-and-a-half’s drive; there you’ll have access to all manner of city attractions, such as its Gothic Cathedral and Torre Gattoni, a tower in which electrical battery inventor Alexander Volta famously carried out many of his experiments. Also around this super handsome city are several museums, galleries and villas and gardens, such as the properly palatial Villa Olmo, plus activities like highly scenic funicular railway rides and strolls along its waterfront promenade.
Other sights around Lake Como include Villa del Balbianello, built in 1700, and the 17th-century gardens of Villa Serbellonii, built on Bellagio’s highest point and networked by more than 18 kilometres' worth of walking paths for scenic promenades.
