  • Pretty family-run park on Lake Garda with pools and bar
  • A 15-minute drive from lively Desenzano; 50 minutes to Verona
  • A minute from the beach: windsurfing, sailing, fishing and swimming
Come and say ciao to this beachside spot by Lake Garda: it's bellissimo. On the Brescia side of Italy's favourite lake, Camping Bruno's backdrop is the Valtenesi hills of Lombardy. The site has a quiet, deep-in-the-hills feel to it, among hectares of green space fringed by the poplar and olive trees typical of the Veneto region. The laundry and mini market on site look after the practical side of the stay; on the leisure side, there are two pools (one for the little 'uns), a playground and a bar. It's a mere olive stone's throw from the site to the beach here (and one that's been a hit with locals since as far back as Roman times). If you want to try your hand at windsurfing or kayaking, here's where you hire your craft, while along the strip is your place for eateries and sunny stopping spots. You could also take in the lake (and its fab mountain backdrop) on a boat cruise or a fishing excursion. If dry land's more your style, hire bikes from the site and explore the coast: a trip to the Roman villa at Grotte di Catullo makes a fine ride and you can jump in the sea at the end. The surrounding town of Moniga del Garda has plenty of shops for things practical and pretty, and an indoor go-karting centre for those rare days when the sun doesn't shine.

Local attractions

Lake Garda is an obvious draw: the paths around it, the wooded hills and craggy peaks behind and the clear blue waters themselves. A 15-minute boat ride to Isola del Garda is a grand way to cool off and do some low-key exploring. Occupied by Romans, Goths, colonies of Franciscan friars and Genoese soldiers, this little outcrop bears vivid traces of its history, especially within the grand villa that sits on top (open for visits in summer months). All around, and only recently open to the public, is a wetland wilderness of cypresses, oaks, citrons and pines. A 15-minute drive away, the town of Desenza has a cracking castle and Roman ruins to root around. Come on Friday and Saturday nights to see the beautiful people parading in their party gear; Desenzano has a lively bar and club scene. For daytime larks, Canevaworld (in Fossalta, 40 minutes away) is a massive waterpark with chutes, tubes, flumes and rapids, a lazy river ride and a pool you can just swim in. This being the Veneto, the playground of Lake Garda is within easy reach of many fine cities steeped in culture and history. The site is 50 minutes from Verona, while the canals, courtyards and grand palazzos of Venice are doable in a day: the city is an hour and 50 minutes away.
