Immerse yourselves in the rural lifestyle of Liguria with a stay at Agricamping Lo Zafferano – pitches here are part of a family-run farm that specialises in maintaining and rediscovering traditional and forgotten varieties of fruit and veg from the area. You may well spot various unusual crops as you stroll around the site, where you’ll also encounter an olive grove and meet the resident horses. Kids can learn a little bit about the growing process at the educational farm, and everyone can have a go at riding through the local landscapes from a ranch a couple of kilometres away (have a chat with the team on site to put you in touch if you’re interested). The quiet atmosphere here is very much one of rural seclusion, but in fact the farm is well located for town amenities and days out too – a bus stop and grocery store are 500 metres away (and you can often buy local products like honey, oil, eggs and wine at the farm too). The historic centre of Albenga is about five minutes’ drive away and it’s a similar distance to the closest beaches as well. Pitches at this site are spacious and welcoming to all sorts of guests, including families and those travelling with dogs. Facilities include a playground, a communal outdoor cooking and dining area and wifi across the site, and you can hire bikes here too.

Liked Große Stellplätze, schön angelegter Platz mit Olivenbäumen. Verkauf von eigenem Olivenöl. Lage gut zum Radfahren in die Berge. Bei Normalbelegung, zwar wenige aber saubere Sanitäranlagen.

Disliked Jede Nacht sehr lautes Hundegebell von den angrenzenden Grundstücken. Wassertemperatur beim Duschen stark schwankend. Bei der Ausrichtung eines 4-tägigen Ayurveda Marktes über Ostern überlastete und extrem verschmutzte Sanitäranlagen.

Liked Abbiamo avuto un soggiorno bello. Era facile trovare e le piazzole erano stazioni tra gli alberi di olive. Le anatre ed oche erano molto tranquilli ed era bello vederli in giro. Un piccolo oasis di tranquillità fra campi di agricole di piante e serre intorno. Serva la macchina per arrivare a una spiaggia bella ma da pochi kilometri quindi molto comodo.

Liked Perfect rural location. Had a clear night with sky full of stars. Chickens, ducks and geese wandering around.Friendly & helpful host. Short drive to shops. Very clean bathrooms. Would definitely return.

Local attractions

This area is a wonderful place to explore on foot or by bike – there are several scenic hiking trails nearby, including the Via Julia Augusta, and places where you can find some challenging mountain bike descents. Nearby Pennavaire Valley (10 minutes’ drive) and Castelbianco (15 minutes) are well known as free climbing destinations, and you can get underground at the three caves of Grotte di Toirano (15 minutes). For more of a gentle stroll, set off instead to Albenga (five minutes) to explore its historic centre, including a Romanesque cathedral, a collection of medieval towers and a whole lot of streets and plazas to wander around. There are also some good museums here, including a naval museum that houses the remains of a 1st-century ship. If you’re after a beach day, you could settle on the pebbly beach in Albenga or travel south to Alassio (10 minutes) for a longer stretch of sand. Aquatic Park Le Caravelle (five minutes) is another option for a swim, with lots of waterslides to scream down as well.
