With great beaches lapped by turquoise waters and a mountainous interior, Liguria ought to appeal to both watersports enthusiasts and seasoned hikers. Throw in a second-to-none gastronomic scene, and you have all the ingredients (or most of them, at least…) for a top holiday. And Green Family Park Europa embodies the spirit of this region down to a T. This family-friendly site sits on the outskirts of Cogoleto (five minutes’ drive), a small town on the Ligurian Riviera. Good news for those who want to hit the beach, which happens to be pebbly here; if you’re after a sandy beach, you’ll have to drive to Arenzano or Varazze (15 minutes to the east or to the west, respectively). But the location is also good news for those who never travel without a pair of sturdy boots: there are hiking trails on Monte Rama (five minutes), or you can scramble through forested peaks at Lago du Mei (10 minutes), where you (and your dog, who should enjoy following you on this walk) can take a refreshing dip in a natural pool. You can also swim at Lago della Tina (30 minutes). After a day of active pursuits, it’s back at the site in time for dinner. The well-organised among you might stock up on local goodies in advance (storing them in the communal freezer); if you find yourself without provisions for the barbecue, the on-site restaurant will give you a first taste of the delicious regional cuisine, which you can then explore further in various eateries in Cogoleto.

Disliked Very small pitches, no room for anything more than a two man tent. Had the guideline of the tent pegged out onto our pitch and other guests were walking through our pitch to get to their chalet and tried to remove the guideline multiple times. A large camping group dominated all the facilities playing loud obnoxious music, with a number of people walking around all night. The camp owner said the noise would be finished by 12pm, the music kept playing untill 1:30 am!! The bathrooms were also filthy, mud everywhere, toilets and bathrooms had dirty socks and underwear left there. Do not recommend unless you like to live in a loud dirty place. Also within close proximity to a neighbouring campsite which also displayed a loud attitude and lack of respect for other campers

From the manager: The pitches exactly match the sizes indicated on pitchup, so they are not small. Your tent was set up poorly with a peg positioned in the adjacent pitch. (I saw it too, but I didn’t mention it out of courtesy) Obviously, others were removing your peg, it was dangerous, and the reason is not yours. In a campsite, there are other people who, like you, may need to go to the toilets even at night; if they disturb you, you should not go to campgrounds or go to empty campsites. It is not true that our bathrooms are dirty. Our staff is present in our bathrooms all day and always clean. There are also sinks for laundry in the bathrooms. The laundry that disturbed you belonged to another customer who was washing it. It is not true that the music stopped at 1:30 AM. According to the authorities' rules, the music obligatority must end at 12:00 PM. Your statement is completely incorrect.

Disliked En meget kedelig oplevelse. Blev dirigeret ind på en for lille plads, hvor lygtebommen blev revet af. Vi betalte for strøm, men kunne ikke bruge f.eks. kaffemaskine, da det mørklagde de omkringliggende, og vi blev bedt om ikke at bruge den, da der var lav strømkapacitet. Det har vi ikke oplevet andre steder, hvor vi har betalt for strøm.

Liked Friendly welcome. Clean and tidy facilities. The winding road up that you see on the map is nowhere near as bad as it looks.

Disliked Pitches are minuscule and only a parking space. Ours was 8m deep and 3.2m wide (I measured it). No space for table & chairs. Would be okay for a small tent, but if a motorhome parks next door they'll be on top of you.

Disliked Ubicación para llegar con la caravana no es cómoda. Parcelas muy pequeñas y solo 2 amp. Baños súper antiguos. Muy incómodo con caravana.

Villa Brignole Sale, Duchess of Galliera (25 minutes’ drive) is a gorgeous Italian-style garden established in the 18th century by a wealthy family. Stroll among olive trees, past water features and woodland, to a deer enclosure or to a sanctuary with a distinctive black-and-white striped interior. Jorn House Museum (half an hour) is the former home of Asger Jorn, a Danish expat and artist who turned a derelict building into his own personal gallery, decorating it with paintings, ceramics, mosaics and sculptures. There are splendid views of the sea from the colourful garden. The Porto Antico area in Genoa (40 minutes) is pretty spectacular, with an enormous aquarium; the Biosfera bubble, designed by local architect Renzo Piano; and the Vascello Neptune galleon. In the city centre, Palazzo Grimaldi della Meridiana and Palazzo Spinola National Gallery enchant with exquisite frescoes and opulent interiors.
