Happy Village: Motorhome pitches shaded by trees

General

  • Parkland location in the Lazio hills, 15km north of central Rome
  • Shuttle bus to metro services for connections to Rome
  • Spectacularly scenic pools, sun terraces and a poolside restaurant

City sightseers, serenity seekers and countryside connoisseurs will be tickled pink with the location of Italy's Happy Village… its setting in the Lazio hills is a simple 15 kilometres north of central Rome, in a remote and green location but with easy access to the capital.

Your road to Rome can be travelled by hailing the shuttle bus from the site to Prima Porta metro station, where you can catch a service to the city centre. For a less hectic day, ride half an hour from the station to the fresh air and clear waters of Lake Bracciano for swimming, hiking or trips on horseback.

But. You'll need a fair bit of time on site too, as it's all mighty peaceful and pretty around its centrepiece of gorgeously set pool, among palm trees and lush hedges, and with views of Veio Park. Both the main pool and the cute circular paddling pool have spacious sun terraces – and all are next to the fine site restaurant-pizzeria so you eat alfresco by the water and under the palm trees. Takeaways are available too and there's a well-stocked mini market if you want to sort your own meals.

Please note

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Reception is unmanned after 8 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Bookings must not be for more than 21 consecutive nights.

Bathing caps are mandatory for anyone using the pool. They can be purchased on site for €3.

It was a convenient location for our stop on the motorway.

    Disliked:

Dusty pitch’s. Mosquitoes everywhere. Ols facilities. But worst of all ; somebody had obviously forgotten to tell the staff that they worked in a place called Happy Village. When we went to the restaurant and asked to sit outside (as it was a very warm day and there was no air con working inside), we were told that if we didn’t sit at the table the waiter wanted us on (right by the kitchen door) then we wouldn’t be eating there. He said they had staff problems and he couldn’t be expected to be running around after us on any table we wanted.

The welcome at Reception, the freedom to choose a site, the spotless showers/toilet block, and especially liked the free Happy Bus ride to the station to get metro into central Rome.

There is also a pool, which other guests were making good use of.

Would love to return before too long to super Happy Village.

Would only stay couple nights for access to Rome will not return11/06/2022

The shuttle bus to the train station for easy access to Rome. Swimming pool was ok, but many of the sun loungers were broken.

    Disliked:

We have a 7.35m MH. Pitches very small, ants and insects everywhere, the sap from the trees over our pitch covered the MH, and the first pitch we parked in we couldn't fully extend our canopy as to narrow. We moved the next day to a slightly wider pitch that became vacant. When you check in your just left to find a vacant pitch so pot luck what you get for size of van. Half the toilets didn't have toilet seats, shower cubicles tiny but worked. Sanitary facilities dated but cleaned everyday with strong bleach. It was very hot when we stayed and the sun for most of the day was directly on our pitch. The site seemed run down I assume because of covid, it needs some investment to improve. I would not recommend staying longer than couple nights to use for access to Rome.
NB I am usually pretty generous with reviews but was disappointed with this site.

The shower facilities were fine with warm showers. The pool area looked nice although we did not use this. There was a motor home service pitch with easily accessible chemical toilet disposal point and water points.

    Disliked:

The campsite is quite unkempt with lots of weeds and bushes. The pitches are small and very hard to access with a long vehicle. We went to the restaurant and the service was appalling and disorganised, it took over half an hour to get a drink after ordering and over 2 hours to receive our food, when we went to chase up this the waiter said they had forgotten our order. Although we are generally not bothered by parties, we were not informed there was going to be a private party at the restaurant until we saw a small sign by the toilet block. The party was loud and went into the night which was quite annoying.

Local attractions

Rome and Lake Bracciano are the main attractions around this lovely landscape, both with enough to do to keep you busy for yonks.

Among the main highlights in Rome are the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Vatican City and St Peter's Basilica, but you'll find a vast amount of ancient architecture to see among its old streets, squares and public parks. Art is a huge deal here too, as showcased at the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, the MAXXI museum and the National Gallery of Modern Art, while threads fans have plenty to pick from among the posh clothing boutiques along the Via dei Condotti.

You may be keen for a break after all that… so take the bus from Prima Porta metro station to the beaut waters of Bracciano, one of Italy's biggest lakes and now a protected area making up the Bracciano-Martignano Regional Natural Park. Lake activities include canoeing, scuba diving, sailing and swimming; above the water, have a potter around the handsome old town of Bracciano and its medieval castle of Orsini-Odescalchi.

Closer to the site, 10 minutes by car will take you to the huge Museo Civico di Zoologia or civic zoo museum with over five million exhibits, next to the Bioparc zoo. Within about 20 minutes' drive, the Santuario Etrusco dell'Apollo archaeological site is a famed Etruscan shrine with tombs and a temple in spectacular setting.
