A well-maintained site close to both hiking trails and natural pools for wild swimming, Campeggio Alidosi sits on the western bank of the river Santerno in Castel del Rio, a small town in the Apennines between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany. It’s a blissfully quiet spot with expansive views of forested peaks and with easy access to the Alidosi Bridge (a couple of minutes’ walk away). This Renaissance-era single-arch stone bridge overlooks a shingly beach where you can launch a kayak, take a refreshing dip or fish for chub and barbel. If you come away from your angling session empty-handed, don’t fret: you’re in one of Italy’s gastronomic hubs, so it would be criminal to self-cater instead of sampling the regional fare. In addition to an on-site restaurant (serving pasta dishes, fish and roast meats) and a handful of eateries in Castel del Rio, there are several food-based festivals that take place in the area in summer and autumn. Each of them celebrates a local speciality – whether porcini mushrooms (in August), truffles (in September) or chestnuts (in October). If all this inspires you to light up a barbecue and get cooking, please use the designated area. Dogs are welcome (but keep them on a lead in communal areas). The site has an impeccable amenity block with toilets and showers (plus an additional outdoor shower), accessible also for disabled guests.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Ein schöner und friedlicher Campingplatz , der an einem Fluss liegt. Es gibt eine Brücke aus der Renaissance, die sogar noch befahrbar ist. Ein zauberhaftes kleiner Ort mit fantastischer Bäckerei und Café. Die Osteria im Ort absolut zu empfehlen. Wunderbar freundliche Einwohner. Ein Ort, wo man entspannen kann Sanitäranlagen sehr sauber.

Local attractions

The Giardino delle Erbe Augusto Rinaldi Ceroni (25 minutes’ drive) is a botanical garden specialising in medicinal and aromatic plants, which you can use to make your own perfume or infusion in a guided workshop. The garden is part of the Parco Regionale della Vena del Gesso Romagnola, where trails snake among a distinctive karst landscape. Imola (half an hour) has a pretty historic centre with a medieval fortress (the Rocca Sforzesca) and the elegant Piazza Matteotti, a square lined with colonnaded passages. But the main highlight (for some, anyway) might be the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, a Formula One racetrack named after the founder of the Ferrari brand. During its long history, the city of Ravenna (an hour and 10 minutes) has been the capital of three different empires, including the Byzantine Empire. Monuments from this era include UNESCO World Heritage sites like Galla Placidia Mausoleum and the Saint Vitale Basilica, with their remarkable gilded mosaics.
