View of Mount Vesuvius and the Gulf of Naples

  • Budget site amid olive groves 50 minutes’ drive from Naples
  • Castellammare di Stabia 15 minutes’ drive; Sorrento 55 minutes
  • Restaurant serving home-grown food and wine; Gulf of Naples views
You’ve watched all the food-themed travelogues on TV, and now you can’t wait to stuff your face while on holiday. If you’re a carb fiend, your first stop might be the Campania region of Italy, birthplace of pizza and one of the country’s gastronomic centres. There, halfway between Naples (50 minutes’ drive) and Sorrento (55 minutes), is Agriturismo Casa Scola. This budget site is part of a farm that produces wine and olive oil, as well as growing citrus fruits, hazelnuts, vegetables and more. While much of the fruit finds its way into lip-smackingly good liqueurs such as limoncello and arancello, the other ingredients are used at the on-site restaurant, which serves food at lunch and dinner. The menu might include stuffed pasta dishes, roast meats and tantalising desserts such as sbriciolata cake (a sort of crumble) – all washed down with home-made wines. After your meal, head up to the terrace for unforgettable views over the olive groves and beyond – all the way to the Gulf of Naples. Lunch and dinner will likely become the highlights of your stay here. In between, you might want to visit the nearby medieval village of Castello (five minutes’ walk), or explore the trails of the Lattari Mountains Regional Park, which stretches across the Sorrento Peninsula, with peaks like Monte Faito rewarding climbers with spectacular views of Mount Vesuvius and the coastline. The park also includes the famed Path of the Gods, which links Agerola (half an hour) to Positano (an hour and 10 minutes).

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked Het restaurant.

From the manager: Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for your beautiful words about our restaurant; we are truly delighted to hear that you appreciated the quality of the food, the service, and our prices.
On the other hand, we are sorry to read your notes regarding the camper area. We would like to clarify that our property offers a rural camper stopover area (agricampeggio) and not a fully equipped campsite; therefore, the services and spaces are those typical of a farm stay. In any case, we will take immediate action to check that our information and address on the Pitchup portal are even clearer, precisely to avoid any future misunderstandings regarding the nature of the accommodation.
Regarding the road, we confirm that our hillside access road is narrow and winding: we frequently point this out as it requires caution, especially for larger vehicles.
As for the noise, being a real farmhouse immersed in nature, the presence of our animals (such as dogs and roosters) is simply part of authentic rural life. Furthermore, the cars passing on the gravel path in the morning and honking their horns do so purely for safety reasons on the blind bends, as this is our staff and suppliers starting their workday.
We are sincerely sorry that this disturbed your rest. We hope, however, that the pleasant memory of our cuisine will remain with you.

Warm regards from all the staff at Casa Scola.

Electric optional gravel tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked Arrived and could not find any sign reception, went to the restaurant area where the receptionist was but she did not speak english as advertised. After she took our details and further payments she just wandered off. The site just looked like a small car park with no facilities or electric which we wanted.and payed for We went back to the reception to ask where the official pitch area was, and different person was there and told that us that the Boss will be there at 4pm to explain everything to us, so after waiting for nearly an hour we decided to leave. The best thing about the site is the road out of it cost well over 40 euros and got nothing.

Local attractions

Take a walk along the seafront in Castellammare di Stabia (15 minutes’ drive), keeping Mount Vesuvius firmly in your sights, before heading to archaeological sites such as the Roman villas of San Marco and Arianna, both decorated with large and well-preserved murals. From Castellammare it's also possible to catch a ferry to Capri (about an hour). In Sorrento (an hour), make like the locals and stroll along Corso Italia, looking at shop windows and buying artisanal products such as leather sandals. The Parco di Villa Fiorentino hosts exhibitions and musical soirées, and there are spectacular views of the Gulf of Naples from the Punto Panoramico ‘Lucio Dalla’. The Amalfi Coast deserves a thorough exploration, starting with Amalfi itself (an hour and five minutes), with the gilded interior of the Cathedral of St Andrew Apostle, before moving west to the Furore Fjord, a narrow beach in a deep canyon, and finally arriving at Positano for a swim in the clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
