Sun, sea and sand always make an irresistible combination, particularly so when they come together on a Calabrian beach edging the Ionian Sea. That’s where you’ll find family-friendly Camping Village Torrenova. Shaded by 1.5 hectares of lush Mediterranean greenery, the site has direct access to a sandy stretch five minutes’ drive from the popular seaside resort Cirò Marina.
This leafy spot has flower-lined paths leading down to the beach, where much of the site’s action takes place. There’s a mini-club with craft and dance workshops for younger guests, and sports activities for all ages including water-aerobics classes, beach volleyball, football, basketball and ping-pong – all giving you a reason to get gently competitive.
In the evening, the energy ramps up with live music, a disco and karaoke down on the beach, all overseen by an enthusiastic team of professional entertainers. There’s also the occasional foam party…
Whether you choose to laze on sun loungers under parasols, drink in hand, or join in with some of the daily activities, you’re never far from a shot of caffeine, a cocktail or two, pizzas or pasta dishes as beachside U’Morzeddhu restaurant/bar is open all day to keep you fed and watered.

Local attractions
This corner of Calabria is rich in history. The ruins of the ancient Greek Temple of Apollo Aleo (15 minutes’ drive) are strewn across a headland overlooking the sea; you can see more artefacts from the site at the Civic Archaeological Museum (five minutes). Check out the colourful Byzantine-style fresco above the altar in San Cataldo Church (also five minutes), and the landmark Sanctuary of Madonna d’Itria (10 minutes) is worth seeing for its modernist design and superb sea views.
Cirò Marina is famous for the production of Cirò DOC wine, one of the most prestigious in Italy. You can sample local wines at vineyards like Senatore Vini (10 minutes) or Brigante Vigneti & Cantina (15 minutes). Back down on the coast, tuck into typical Calabrian pasta and seafood dishes in waterfront trattorias.
If you need to get active and cycle off your plate of pasta, hire bikes on site to explore the region sustainably. When you fancy a day at sea, you can organise sports-fishing cruises from the harbour at Cirò Marina (five minutes).

Il camping è piccolo e molto…

Liked Il camping è piccolo e molto accogliente, si respira l’aria del mare e della vegetazione in quanto si trova direttamente sulla spiaggia. Dopo pochi giorni si stringe amicizia facilmente anche grazie all’animazione a cui faccio tanti complimenti per la simpatia e il coinvolgimento non invadente. Nella piazzola è disponibile un lavandino, una marcia in più per chi è caravanista come me. Vacanza meravigliosa, tornerò sicuramente.
