  • In the Abruzzo National Park and regularly visited by deer
  • 15 kilometres from Pescasseroli and two kilometres from the local lake
  • Hikers' paradise a short walk from the local village
Cor, look at that mountainy view... Campeggio Natura Le Quite is in the southern Italy of Province of L'Aquila, the most mountainous and least populated of  the Abruzzo region: if you want mountain hikes, this is the Italian countryside region for you. But there's yet more. The site is also in the splendidly scenic and wildlife-filled Abruzzo National Park, the biggest national park in the Apennine Mountains and a protected nature area since 1992. It’s surrounded by hills, woodland and fields, is a top local spot for hiking and foraging, and is regularly visited by wild animals including deer. Campeggio Natura Le Quite has basic but clean facilities including a toilet block with hot showers (a small charge applies) and a washing-up area. Bring a torch as there’s no lighting at night – just the ticket for Italian stargazing and a long sleep... Provisions can be sorted at the local village a short walk away, where explorers will find a mini market, a few small bars and a café.

Local attractions

Hiking, hiking and more hiking… Campeggio Natura Le Quite's location in the Abruzzo National Park is hiking heaven, so take off for the day to see where your feets take you. Other highly good hikes are through the mountain pass of Passo Godi and its starting point Scanno, known as the city of photographers; also take yourself off around the local lake shores; the closest is only a couple of kilometres from the site. A short drive away are the Sagittario gorges, reached via the SR 479 pass, and the town of the Pescasseroli, doubling up as the headquarters of the national park. For other activities, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing and mountain biking are all possible in the area, and horse riding is also available nearby.
