Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: On our way from Amsterdam to Prague we wanted somewhere to drop for 1 night. This exceeded all our expectations. Very laid back - pick you own spot on the flat grassy area. Views are spectacular. We used the restaurant at the adjacent hotel. Only option was a buffet but it was fantastic. All you can eat AND drink (until 10:00pm) for 39€ per person - fantastic value for the quality. We ate outside watching some kids roasting marshmallows on an open fire. Sooo relaxing.

Disliked: Quite a bit off our route but worth it

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Liked the beauty of the place , everything is well organizez and very clean . There is and entire building allocated to showers and toilets , dishwasher place and everything you need . Owner is also nice and polite .

Disliked: You have to pay extra for electricity, usually I like when I know exactly how much I would pay for a night , here you have to add that extra unknown cost of electricity, but it wasn’t that bad ( few euros )

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: The owner of the hotel / campsite greeted us on our arrival , he was very lovely , very helpful & information. He pointed out the local beauty spots , there is also an up to date information technology system in the reception area of the hotel. There’s a pin indoor bar & restaurant / games area. There’s also a gorgeous garden area for drinks & food. At night they lit a fire pit. The surrounding views are spectacular. Washing & toilet facilities are immaculate & well maintained to a high standard as were the washing facilities. ( washer & dryer). We stayed an extra night. Would definitely recommend & would love to return to the area.

Disliked: Nothing,

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Very nice restaurant, beer, garden with sitting and party area, amazing bathroom facilities next to the camping area, friendly and helpful staff, all you need for a good stay.

Disliked: Equipping staff with slightly better English language skills before next season would be amazing, they all seem great and hard working people. Do that and the rating will be 5/5, no doubt.

Local attractions

If you’re hankering after heights, the Wasserkuppen and Kreuzberg peaks are the loftiest of the locals (50 minutes and an hour away), the former popular with paragliders and the latter popular with everyone, due to the monastery making beer and cheese at the top. You could always go inside a mountain instead, heading leagues beneath the earth at the Merkers Adventure Mine (25 minutes) where the saltmines contain an enormous crystal cave, a room where the Nazis stored stolen gold, and a cavernous subterranean concert hall with laser shows. If that sounds like hard work, take a tasty tour of the Viba nougat factory, immerse yourself in nostalgia for the bygone German Democratic Republic at the Geisa Heimatmuseum, or visit Point Alpha, where capitalist West and communist East once divided; all are half an hour away. Alternatively, you could just whizz down the Inselsberg on the mountain luge, 45 minutes from the site. An hour away, the Wartburg awaits: a UNESCO-listed castle on a precipice surrounded by narrow gorges, and ancient beech forests home to European wildcats. After all that roaming of the Rhön, visit Bad Salzungen (15 minutes), for a soak in the saltwater springs, pools and saunas; you may not be cured, but you'll certainly be chilled.
