- Small, well-kept touring park on the outskirts of Freiberg in Saxony
- Terra Mineralia, Freiberg Cathedral and Freiberg Zoo 10 minutes’ drive
- Communal firepit, barbecues and occasional events in the Blues Barn
Set in a quiet location on the outskirts of historic Freiberg in Saxony, Vier Pfoten - Bluesfarm (which translates rather sweetly as ‘Four Paws - Blues Farm’ is a laidback spot open to touring vans. It’s surrounded by mature trees, gated and completely fenced for your security, and as there are no roads nearby, the site is free of traffic noise.
Facilities are simple – being hot showers and separate toilets for men and women – but there is a shared firepit for gathering around in the evening, a communal barbecue area and occasional cultural events in the Blues Barn, where there’s a snack bar and grill.
Staying here puts you about 10 minutes’ drive from central Freiberg, a handsome city with centuries of history and impressive architecture behind it. It also has supermarkets for stocking up on provisions, and restaurants galore from traditional German ‘ratskeller’ beer cellars to burger bars and takeaways.
Freiberg is centrally located between Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz; it’s about 20 minutes by car from the east-west A4 motorway.

Local attractions
Freiberg (10 minutes’ drive) was the original capital of Saxony, and a former mining town with 850 years of history. It is centred on the Gothic cathedral, well worth a look for its soaring spire, Silbermann organs and Romanesque Golden Gate. It is surrounded by colourful gabled and half-timbered buildings, and a farmers’ market is held in the square at its feet every day apart from Sunday.
The city grew rich on silver mining in the Erzgebirge (Ore) Mountains, and today its Renaissance-era castle houses the world’s largest mineral exhibition at the impressive Terra Mineralia. You can also get a feel for mining conditions on underground tours of Freiberg Reiche Zeche silver mine (15 minutes).
If you’re visiting with kids, you can treat them to cuddly donkeys and alpacas at Freiberg Zoo, and have a day off from sightseeing at Johannisbad waterpark (10 minutes), which has covered pools, lazy rivers and waterslides.
