It’s all about the water at Camping de la Pra, a spacious Rhône-Alpes site just outside the town of Saint-Germain-Laval. And there are two elements to that: the fabulous setting on the banks of the Aix river, and the lovely outdoor swimming pool on site. That means guests here have two options for swimming: either a dip in the pool or a wild swim in the cool water of the river, where you can also go fishing. Those two things are likely to be the highlights for many guests, but there are other attractions too – including the play area, the weekly activity/entertainment programme in summer, and the snack bar for easy eats and drinks. The location of this site is a real winner too – it’s in a peaceful natural setting but only about a mile from the town’s shops and places to eat. Even better, it’s also only five minutes’ drive from exit 32 of the A89 motorway, making it both a handy spot for a stopover on a long journey and a great base for getting out to explore the area. And what’s around in this area? Well, places like Saint-Étienne, Lyon and Clermont-Ferrand are within an hour’s drive, and there are lakes, traditional villages and grand châteaux nearby to visit too.

Local attractions

Start your break with a wander around the local town – Saint-Germain-Laval (five minutes’ drive) has a lovely medieval centre with a Cluniac priory and lots of historic houses dating back as far as the 14th century. Follow up with a trip to Château de Boën (10 minutes), a grand house with a wine-growing museum, or Château de la Roche (20 minutes), in a stunning setting on an island within the River Loire. If it’s rural time you’re after, take a walk through the bird sanctuary at Écopôle du Forez (25 minutes), find beach time and watersports at Lac de Villerest (25 minutes) or tour the vineyards of the Côte Roannaise region (half an hour), well known for their Gamay wines. The Pilat and Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Parks are both close by for hiking as well. As for city time, there’s a lot to enjoy in Saint-Étienne (50 minutes), a UNESCO Creative City; foodie favourite Lyon (an hour); and Clermont-Ferrand (an hour), with its volcanic-stone cathedral and nearby Vulcania park.

Admission

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Unsupervised minors must have a letter of authorisation from their parents or legal guardian.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.

Public areas are non-smoking.
The management reserves the right to deny access or terminate the stay of those guests whose behaviour is deemed unsuitable. No refunds will be offered.

Hired accommodation: a €500.00 (£432.49) damage/cleanliness/bracelet deposit is required within -1 days of arrival and will be refunded within 30 day(s) of departure after inspection of your unit, should no damage/losses be found.
