Fishing or bike rides? Both are on the menu at Camping Kanôpée Village, a peaceful, well-appointed park in Trévoux, on the banks of the Saône river in the scenic Ain department. There's plenty of space to relax and take in the dense, green scenery at this park – and plenty to keep the kids busy while the grownups chill out, as in high season the park’s lively entertainment team runs daily activities for junior guests such as arts and crafts, treasure hunts and sports tournaments. Adults, meanwhile, will find a pétanque court. It is also possible to fish on the Saône (a permit and equipment can be acquired on site) and bicycles are available for hire for rides along the river. If you fancy getting into the water, there's a waterpark in Trévoux, a couple of kilometres away among a greenly scenic setting. The campsite has three well-maintained toilet blocks, as well as wifi. The pitches are spacious, shaded and well-maintained (and some are set up directly on the river bank with stunning views over the water).

Liked: Very easy access from main road.

Disliked: Noisy due to music coming from timber chalets. Need to be choosy were you park so away from these chalets.

Liked: Location was great, close to the river and the town. Good sized and level pitches.

Disliked: A very noisy party in one of the cabins into the small hours. This was not the site's fault and they apologised beautifully.

Liked: The river the staff very helpful the bread I ordered was gorgeous the separate male and female loos and showers the river again being parked in front of it!!!!! The pizza from the carpark opposite - try it!!!!

Disliked: The strimming starting before even 7.30am - really? we are on holiday, but total respect to the 'strimeree' who stopped immediately I did the tapping watch sign. Thanks for that.

Liked: Für die Durchreise durchaus praktisch.. Personal an der Rezeption sehr nett!

Disliked: Abartig viele Stechmücken! Nur ein Toilettengebäude geöffnet,kein warmes Wasser..alles etwas in die Jahre gekommen.Kein Shop...bloß an der Rezeption ein oder zwei kleine Regale.

Local attractions

The Saône river is a popular spot for anglers, and guests can procure themselves a fishing pass – as well as hire basic kit – from reception. For golfing gurus, an 18-hole golf course is around 10 minutes’ drive away. Pedally peeps will be pleased to learn that a 14-kilometre towpath lies right in front of the site; alternatively, if you’re more into your jumps and dirt trails, head to the Dombes plateau, 23 kilometres from base, to traverse its 16 mountain bike circuits. Two hiking trails are marked out here too if you’d rather take a slower approach. For a city-based jaunt, UNESCO-listed Lyon is around 40 minutes’ drive away, or about an hour and a half on a bike alongside the Saône if you’re feeling particularly energetic. Stick around to sample the city’s famed gastronomy in between exploring sights such as the museum of fine arts, the spectacular hilltop church and museum of Fourvière, and the 14th-century cathedral.

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.

In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.

Radio, music and TV players must be kept at a low volume. Car doors and boots must be closed quietly.
The management reserves the right to deny access or terminate the stay of those guests whose behaviour is deemed unsuitable. No refunds will be offered.

Hired accommodation

Hired accommodation: €300.00 (£261.46) damage/cleanliness/bracelet deposit is required on arrival and will be refunded on departure after inspection of your unit should no damage/losses be found.
