Around the site

  • Quiet site by the Aravis mountain range
  • 700 metres from Saint-Jean-de-Sixt and 30 minutes' drive from Annecy
  • Spectacular scenery, well-kept amenities and friendly vibe
Travelling in the Alps? Do yourself a favour and stop off at Camping du Crêt. This peaceful place is rightly lauded by its guests for its spectacular views, spotless amenities, friendly vibe and excellent setting – making it what one guest hails as a must-visit among the French Alps. If you're going to see for yourself (seriously, do yourself a favour), this smashing site is just outside the Haute-Savoie town of Saint-Jean-de-Sixt, in the Aravis range of the French Alps, between La Clusaz and Grand Bornand. The splendid lake of Annecy, the third biggest in France, is about half an hour's drive away for fishing, swimming, sailing, and basking on its sandy beach. Rock climbing, canyoning, via ferrata, paragliding, mountain biking, skiing, horse riding and golf are all easily accessible from here, along with another beach at Passy Lake, thermal spas at Thermes de Saint-Gervais, and guided tours around the foothills of mighty Mont Blanc. But you can bid a cheery au revoir to your wheels here if you wish: it's about 700 metres from Camping du Crêt to town, and walks and hikes into the mountains are all around the site. Dithering on what to do? Ask the friendly team at reception for info and tips. Camping du Crêt is run by a couple, Cynthia and Bastien, and has excellently-kept amenities, plenty of space and – see pics – spectacular scenery and colourful flowers all around. If you ask them, they can also provide laundry services. Ice creams, drinks and snacks like aperitif boards are available during the high season, subject to availability.

Liked Decent location with just a short walk to the town and a 30 min drive to Annecy.
Was quiet, nice view and staff were friendly.
Amenities were few but as was quiet it didn’t mater.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked The main attraction to this site is its location overlooking the town and valley. The views are spectacular. Facilities are clean. As we were there in September there wasn't much going on in the site. A short walk down the hill brought you to the local town which had a number of restaurants and shops.

Disliked Having to carry your own loo roll to the toilet.

Très propre et personnel agréable.…

Local attractions

Activities for all tastes are all around the site, ranging from walks and hikes in the immediate surroundings to sailing, skiing, climbing and paragliding within a short drive. The region has plenty of markets and local events too: ask the Camping du Crêt team what's on while you're here. Whatever activity you plump for, make time too for a trip to Lac d'Annecy, 30 minutes to the west and acclaimed as one of the cleanest lakes in Europe. As you might expect with such vast and clear waters, swimming and sailing are popular here; away from the water, potter around Annecy's towns and villages, or take one of the many trails skirting around the lake. One of the most famed Annecy villages is Talloires, flocked to for decades by arty and posh sorts, as well as active types to tackle the heaps of outdoor activities in its surroundings: the Tour de France has wound around here several times, and golf, horse riding, paragliding and canyoning are all popular picks from town.
