  • Family-friendly site at Saint-Ferréol-Trente-Pas in Drôme Provençale
  • Nyons and Parc de Loisirs Aquatiques Nyonsoleïado 20 minutes’ drive
  • Leafy pitches with a swimming pool, waterslides and a river beach
Set around a traditional ‘mas’ – a Provençal stone farmhouse – Camping Le Pilat is a family-friendly Drôme Provençale site in quiet Saint-Ferréol-Trente-Pas. Edging the banks of the Trente Pas river, its pitches sit under the partial shade of mature trees and among lavender fields, with rocky mountains as their backdrop. Doubtless much of your day will be spent around the outdoor pool with its waterslides, splash fountain and paddling pool. Alternatively, you can swim in the river from a small beach, or keep active by playing table tennis, pétanque, volleyball or badminton – and there’s a fitness area as well. You can also watch major sporting events on the large-screen TV, and in July/August, the entertainment really ramps up, with musical and dance evenings, pétanque tournaments and sports activities for all ages. On top of all that, you can access hiking and cycling trails directly from the site, go climbing in the Drôme Provençale foothills or visit gorgeous old towns like Nyons (20 minutes' drive away), with its photogenic setting bordering the Aigues River. When it comes to day-to-day necessities at the site, you’re catered for by handy amenities like fridge rentals and a launderette. There’s also a bar and cosy café, a grocery store selling regional foods and wines, and bread and pastries baked daily on site. If you fancy grilling up an alfresco feast, you have access to a couple of shared barbecues too.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked Heerlijke camping aan de beek. Veel speelvertier voor kinderen. Leuke wandelingen naar lavendelvelden rondom de camping. Sanitair schoon en netjes. Vriendelijk ontvangst. En in t voorseizoen heel rustig.

Disliked Dat in t voorseizoen de ‘snack’ niet open is, winkels zijn niet op wandel-afstand. En helaas is de wifi niet gratis.

Local attractions

If you’d like to see some of the natural wonders of Drôme Provençale, take a picnic and walk up to the stunning Cascade d’Aubres (15 minutes’ drive to the car park); brave souls can take a refreshing dip in the pool at its foot. To get the lay of the dramatic landscape, hike to the hilltop viewpoint at Garde Grosse (half an hour) for spectacular views over forested foothills. Anyone wanting a physical challenge can embark on the cycle ride through the Gorges de Trente Pas (half an hour) for inspiring views of limestone cliffs and the winding river far below. Combining your exercise with a history lesson, you may like to follow the waymarked botanical trail around Sahune Vieux Village (20 minutes), a ruined farming hamlet abandoned in the 19th century. Postcard-perfect Nyons (20 minutes) is a traditional Drôme Provençale village with strolls along the Aigues River, a flower-filled sensory garden and a playground for toddlers. Once there, you can treat the kids to an afternoon on the waterslides at the Parc de Loisirs Aquatiques Nyonsoleïado.
