  • Friendly-family site in the hilltop village of Poët-Célard
  • Excellent amenities including sprinkler play area and pool
  • Close to hilltop Provence villages and their farmers' markets
What spectacular scenery is this… Have a look at the site pics, have serious envy and then pitch up among splendid views over the Trois Becs and Couspeau mountains at the quiet, family friendly and highly scenic Drôme campsite of Camping Le Couspeau. Said spectacular scenery is on the edge of the Provence region, surrounded by hilltop villages and their markets full of local produce. The site's local village is Le Poët-Célard, a historic dwelling built around its medieval château and fortress where Huguenots have taken refuge in times of strife: if you want to stay in France among heady and historic heights, Le Couspeau is the hilltop place pour vous. The campsite has a big pool with sliding roof and a paddling pool as well as a sprinkler play area for cooling down at, and a playground with a giant inflatable giraffe among its bouncy menagerie (again, look at the site pics). There's also a kids' club for ages five to seven. And if you're on hols with enfants over seven? There's also a Junior club for ages eight to 12 that lays on loads of activities like crafting, pottery, sports tournaments and mini disco, and family activities that grownups can join in with – or leave les enfants to enjoy alone… For food, Camping Le Couspeau has a snack bar, pizzeria and restaurant, and a food shop supplying fresh bread. Mountain view picnics with a baguette and a pile of fresh produce from a local hilltop village market? We say oui, merci.

Local attractions

The Drôme, the Provence, mountains, villages, family days out, hiking, biking, watersports and a whole heap of French heritage are the options around Camping Le Couspeau – and we haven't even mentioned the snapshotting opps of the local lavender fields and olive groves. After a day or two in the pool or lazing around soaking up the mountain scenery, go along to investigate the restored castle, fortress and cobbled streets of the campsite's local village of Le Poët-Célard, a historical place of refuge for persecuted Huguenots during local religious wars. Four miles to the village's south is the Canton capital of Bourdeaux, another old village with the ruins of two medieval castles, and within easy driving distance are more aged places at Mornans and Truinas. Hiking and archery are both popular at the nearby village of Roubion. Among the many other nearby options are the local crocodile farm with over 400 crocs as well as giant tortoises and brightly plumaged birds; and indulging one's sweet tooth in the city of Montélimar, so famed for its nougat that the Beatles penned lines about it. Watersports like canoeing, kayaking and swimming can all be plunged into nearby.
