  • Remote site five minutes’ drive from Col de Rousset winter resort
  • Museum of Prehistory 10 minutes’ drive; Grenoble an hour and a half
  • Resident huskies for dog-sledding experiences; crafting workshops
In south-eastern France’s rugged Vercors Natural Park, Esprit du Nord is the place for those who want to heed the call of the wild. One of the likely highlights for guests at this remote site in the mountains is meeting the resident pack of Siberian huskies. They are at the centre of several of the activities arranged on site: from cani-hiking and cani-snowshoeing, to a guided dog-sledding experience through the wintery Vercors landscape. When you’re all huskied out (and chances are you will tire before these energetic animals do…), you can have a go at a different type of recreation: crafting. And if you think crafting is about journals or bedazzling, think again: here you can make knives in the blacksmithing workshop, carve a wooden Viking stool or make your own leather accessory: rugged crafts to match the ruggedness of the landscape. And when you’ve completed your belt or bracelet, you can wear it with pride as you head into town to pick up your groceries or to dine out. The nearest shops and restaurants are in Vassieux-en-Vercors (five minutes’ drive along the D76 road); there are more dining options in Saint-Agnan-en-Vercors (also five minutes).
