  • Dog-friendly site three kilometres from Gorges d'Ubrieux
  • In Buis-les-Baronnies, at the start of the GR9 walking trail
  • Drinks and ice cream sold on site; next to a public swimming pool
Being in the mountains always seems to make recharging your batteries that little bit easier – and just wait until you see the gorgeous mountain scenery at Camping Le Jalinier. Just 150 metres from the edge of the Ouvèze river running through the mountain town of Buis-les-Baronnies (which was once upon a time the capital of a powerful domain), the dog friendly site is in one of the finest parts of Drôme… A brief walk will make that very clear. Stroll half an hour to the Gorges d'Ubrieux, where there are shallow turquoise bathing waters surrounded by white cliffs covered in tufts of green. The site is also at the foot of the mountain of St Julien, where there are hiking trails and a via ferrata route suitable for families and professional climbers alike. If you’re itching to stroll further and further into the wild, the GR9 walking trail starts in the town (in the direction of Cucuron). Before tackling a stretch, you’ll surely want to grab yourself one of the fresh bread loaves or croissants available to order at reception every morning during high season. Upon your return, any further cravings can be settled by buying one of the local products, ice creams, cold drinks or hot drinks sold on site. In the mood for a dip? Handily, there’s a free public swimming pool next to the site with a large pool, paddling pool, a sauna and an outdoor seating area. Shops and restaurants are also within walking distance.

Electric optional grass and gravel pitch

Liked: Its location close to the town and for Mont Ventoux. Basic but cheap.

Disliked: Water was barely warm for washing up and a shower.

Local attractions

Shiraz, Grenache, Côtes du Rhône, Vinsobres or whatever else floats your boat… all the different grape varieties of the Drôme vineyards are sure to provide some entertainment for adults in your group. There are wine cellars within walking distance of the site. With huge numbers of climbing routes and some lavender fields and lavender distilleries a short drive away too, guests may very well feel a little spoiled for things to do. A thermal bath too? Montbrun-les-Bains (35 minutes’ drive) is well-known for its family-friendly spa resort and medieval stone houses. Mirabel-aux-Baronnies (half an hour) is another gorgeous spot. Set over sloping vineyards, the medieval remains include a castle and a watchtower. There’s also a wine house.
