Within easy reach of outdoor activities of all flavours and yet more canoeing (an absolute must) at the world-famed Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, Camping La Rouvière les Pins is a family-friendly place close to prehistoric sites and caves as well as medieval villages and historical monuments. And if you find the thought – or the action – of an Ardèche canoe trip a tad taxing? Massages are available to book on site. The site has a pool and paddling pool, and a good range of land-based leisure picks like a playground, a games room, ping pong tables, a football pitch and volleyball and basketball courts; fuel up for whatever activity you plump for with tipples and vittles from the shop, takeaway and bar. In the surroundings, your nearest stopoffs for supplies are Vagnas, two kilometres away, and the Monday market at Barjas, just under 10 minutes' drive from the site.

Liked Le camping offre de grand espaces pour tentes, caravans. Il y a beaucoup d'emplacements donc c'est un bon camping pour venir a plusieurs.
Chaque emplacement a un evier avec eau potable ce qui est bien pratique. Ils sont aussi bien ombrages. Camping tranquille. Il y a une piscine.
Le proprietaire est tres serviable et accueillant

Disliked Le camping est assez en retrait, dans la campagne, a 5 kms de la riviere. Il faut prendre sa voiture pour se replacer car il n'y aucun magasin autour

Liked Great owners/staff. Very friendly. Huge pitches, each with individual sink. Good WiFi, nice bar area, terrific pool. Very quiet and well maintained park, set in beautiful countryside. Probably the best site we’ve stayed on in France.

Disliked No seats on the toilets!

Local attractions

The big daddy around these parts is most definitely the Pont-d'Arc, the jaw-dropping stone gorge 35 metres high that leads into the (also jaw-dropping) Ardèche canyon. Paddling under here is a bit of a must; arrange a trip in the gateway town of Vallon Pont-d'Arc, and sort someone on the bank to snap a bragworthy photo as you glide smugly past. Just outside Vallon Pont-d'Arc are the also-famed caves of Chauvet (20 minutes' drive), a UNESCO World Heritage Site with some of the best-preserved Palaeolithic drawings on the planet. The caves have been closed to the public since 1994 to keep the drawings in their preserved state, but an excellent replica is close by at Caverne du Pont-d'Arc, a full-size copy of this splendid site and the biggest cave replica ever built in the world. Local caves open to the public are Aven d'Orgnac (15 minutes) and Cocalière (30 minutes), as well as the caverns – and dinosaur park – of Aven Marzal, 25 minutes away. For villages, have a day each in Balazuc (35 minutes), listed as an Ardèche village of character, and Anduze, a medieval settlement at the foot of the Cevennes an hour and five minutes away.
