And relax… there’s plenty of space to chill out in the rural surrounds of La Chazalet, a small farm site a few minutes’ drive from the village of Saint-Julien-Labrousse. This is a peaceful place mercifully far removed from busy roads and traffic noise, with a scenic backdrop provided by woods, a little river and the Ardèche mountains. Those hills and woods make for some lovely walks nearby, and the local area is also a good place for leisurely days spent horse riding, mountain biking or fishing. A swimming lake and waterpark are 20 minutes’ drive away for cooling off. A friendly menagerie (rabbits, ducks, chickens, dogs, cats and a horse) resides on site, and there’s fresh farm produce for sale – eggs, potatoes and a selection of seasonal fruit and veg. A little play area and cosy lounge/games room have been set up to keep kids amused, and there’s also much fun to be had paddling in the river or roaming around the site playing games in the fresh air. Barbecues are allowed on site, and there’s a little indoor kitchen to cook in too. It’s a good 20 minutes’ drive to a supermarket from here so you’d be best advised to stock up en route to your rural retreat.

Liked Joli petit camping à la ferme. Un emplacement idéal près d'un petit ruisseau. Accueil très sympathique d'Anne qui se met en quatre pour nous. Nous avons passé un très bon séjour.

Liked Un endroit d'un calme remarquable. Aucune pollution lumineuse ou sonore le soir ou la nuit. Frais la nuit. Idéal pour quelqu'un qui souhaite rompre avec la chaleur, le bruit et la folie de la vallée. Emplacement ombragé.

Disliked Installations très rustiques. Nombreuses mouches et taons très agressifs (on est à la campagne et donc chez eux, je le reconnais) mais qui disparaissent dès le soir tombé.

Liked J’ai aimé le calme de l’endroit, très paisible, en connexion avec la nature, de très bon endroits à visiter aux alentours.
L’hôte est très accueillante et sociable, ce fut un plaisir de discuter avec elle.
Tout le nécessaire est sur place (frigo, plancha, gaz, douches, wc)

One of the most popular trails nearby is the Dolce Via, an 80-kilometre stretch of well-maintained path suitable for walkers and cyclists. Those who like to explore on horseback can sign up for short or day-long rides from a stables 10 minutes’ drive away in Saint-Jean-Chambre, and there’s also the option of a family-friendly vélorail ride on an old railway track through the Gorges du Doux, 40 minutes away. To see the surrounds at a more leisurely pace, board the narrow-gauge railway through the Doux valley from Lamastre or take a scenic swim at Lac aux Ramiers or the Eyrium waterpark – all are around 20 minutes away.
