  • Family-run farm site two kilometres from the village of Plats
  • Valence, Train de l’Ardèche and wineries within 20 minutes' drive
  • Swimming pool, snack bar, games room and play area on site
On the border of the Ardèche and Drôme departments is a fine place to base yourselves for a holiday, as it gives access to all sorts of excellent attractions and activities – whether you’re planning a family holiday, an active break or a gourmet journey, there should be plenty of things to fill days with between these two excellent areas. In that very location is Ferme de Simondon, where Hélène and Hubert welcome guests to a family-friendly site on their farm a couple of kilometres from Plats. This is a quiet and relaxed spot with lovely views all around and farm animals to meet (including sheep, donkeys, hens and a rooster). From here it’ll be easy to get out to family-friendly attractions – or to find hiking trails, canyoning and ziplining (or winery tours if that all sounds a bit too exhausting…) Packing your days full should be pretty straightforward – but it’s an equally enticing prospect just to stick around on site and chill out for a bit. Downtime here can be filled with swims in the heated outdoor pool (open from mid-May to mid-September, weather permitting), time in the games room (for table tennis, table football, kids’ games and a reading corner) or letting the kids loose at the play area (which has a trampoline and football area as well as a slide and swing). For food, you can get grilling at the communal barbecue area or pick up snacks (pizzas, quiches and the like) to go with your drinks from the bar. There’s also a shop on site for local produce and ice creams, and a bread service runs in high season.

Electric optional grass pitch

Local attractions

All set to get active? Start with a walk or bike ride on one of the local trails – the owners have suggested routes from an hour-long stroll to a full day’s hike. This is also a great area for canyoning, with several providers locally, or you could try treetop adventures at Indian Forest (an hour’s drive) or pedalling through the scenery at Vélorail des Gorges du Doux (half an hour). Keeping it all a little more leisurely, you can take in lots of landscapes from a ride on the Train de l’Ardèche (25 minutes), admire the art collection at Castle Museum of Tournon-sur-Rhône (20 minutes) or meet the beasts at Safari de Peaugres (55 minutes). The Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval (45 minutes) is another popular pick. Sweet treats await for visitors to Cite du Chocolat Valrhona (20 minutes), and there are plenty of excellent tastes too at the various wineries along the banks of the Rhône (several within 20 minutes).
