- Ardèche Cévennes site with views of the Thines river valley
- Adrenaline sports and the Bois de Païolive within half an hour’s drive
- Accommodation with private hot tubs and outdoor dining areas
Looking for peace and quiet? Untamed landscapes and river views? Sounds like you should be heading for Ardèche River Glamping overlooking the Thines river valley in the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Natural Park. Here you can recharge your batteries in a Natura 2000 zone and stroll through the trees to the wild, pristine river for a swim. Along its banks are tucked-away beaches, deep pools and smooth granite boulders often warmed by the sun.
The accommodation units here all sleep up to four guests across a queensize and two single beds; sheets and towels are available for an additional fee. Both are set on their own spacious wooden terrace with views of the forest, a dining area and a hot tub. You're also all set to get cooking, with a covered, well-equipped outdoor kitchen at each unit.
Staying here, you also have your own private shower cabin and dry toilet. You should get decent 4G network coverage, but no wifi. There’s parking on a paved road nearby, and the property is fenced, so any dogs you've brought should be secure and safe. Just take note that all fires are strictly prohibited on site.
To pick up supplies, drive 25 minutes into the town of Les Vans, where the shops sell tasty produce like cured meats, cheeses, vegetables, fruit, bread and other delicious Ardèche specialities. Closer by, just 10 minutes' drive upstream, is the small medieval village of Thines. It has a pretty Romanesque church, a restaurant with Ardèche charcuterie and cheeses and a café that has both artisanal ice cream and local history information, crafts and exhibitions.

Local attractions
The Ardèche Cévennes are just as stunning as the Ardèche Valley to the east, yet often far less crowded. There's a long list of activities you could try out: canoeing, rafting, canyoning, rock climbing, paragliding, cycling, hot-air ballooning, horseback or donkey riding… and even caving (in grand, well-equipped caves or – if you're experienced – wilder ones).
Fly fishers can easily find local spots. Foodies, meanwhile, should like browsing the night and Saturday markets in Les Vans (25 minutes' drive) and surrounding medieval villages. Les Vans also has a cinema, theatre and festivals. More events take place in Orange, Avignon, Nîmes, and Alès, all within a two-hour drive.
Tick off some designated Grand Sites of France while you're here too: the caves of Aven d'Orgnac and Chauvet (both an hour and five minutes) and Grotte de la Cocalière (45 minutes). You may also want to see the bizarre rock formations at the Bois de Païolive (half an hour) or visit the big-hitting attractions of the Gorges de l’Ardèche, like Pont-d’Arc (50 minutes) and Grotte Chauvet 2 - Ardèche (an hour).
