How does one fancy regular riverboat cruises to the French theatre capital, plus the addition of a scenic setting opposite the UNESCO-listed Palais des Papes, easy access to all the sights of medieval Avignon. Good news, because Camping du Pont d'Avignon has all of the above and a good bit more. Set across a wooded estate of almost eight hectares, this site is minutes from the city centre on the island of Barthelasse, and operates a regular free ferry shuttle directly over to Avignon city centre. Alternatively, rent a bike on site for gentle pedals around Avignon's Old Town. The playground, paddling pool and kids' club activities like face painting and fun outdoor games should keep the tiddlers amused, while grown ups spend their days luxuriating around the roomy sun terrace that frames the large outdoor pool (open May through to September). Yet more leisure time on site can be filled with games of ping pong, tennis and volleyball, plus no French site would be complete without a pétanque court… Food and drink is sorted at the bar-restaurant and grocery store, and the restaurants of Avignon are within easy reach for when you fancy sampling the city's fine cuisine.

Disliked Extreme weather.site waterlogged from rain..like driving a boat around site. Advised they would ring on phone if river was about to flood...you are on an island on the Rhone, itself a beautiful and handy setting but not for this weather.

Disliked How quickly the site flooded. I was on a boat trip when I got a call to urgently move my caravan because of a flood. It had only been raining a few hours. I couldn’t get back to the van until 8pm and by that time my pitch was a quagmire. I’m on my own and 70 but had to move the van in the pitch dark. Everything including me was covered in mud. A really awful experience. They shouldn’t let the pitches that flood so quickly especially as the rain was forecast days before.

Liked Decent size pitches, once you find them. Not on grass, more dry earth.

Disliked It would have been nice to know there was no card machines working in the shop, bar or restaurant BEFORE we got there, or at the very least at check in so we could have found some cash.

A very complicated lay out, not easy to find your pitch.

Liked Great site in a great location. Pool is lovely with a great bar. Shop has a few items such as essentials but could be made much better as there are no shops local.
Pitches were a good size with adequate showers and toilets.

Disliked Would be good to have a gate to get to the river where the free ferry goes from
