How does a tour of a variety of Var beaches sound as a theme for your next holiday? You won’t have to travel very far to do exactly that when you stay at Camping Saint Jean – this family-friendly two-hectare site is in the town of Six-Fours-les-Plages, an excellent location that puts you within 10-15 minutes’ drive of several gorgeous stretches of sand.
This is an area where the beaches are characterised by their soft sand and turquoise sea waters, but each one has a slightly different vibe – some are very tucked-away, some have plenty of amenities (watersports, restaurants and the like) and others are the preserve of the naturists. You’ll be able to take your pick while you’re staying here – perhaps also filling out your days with things like boat trips, Bandol region wine-tasting and strolls around the nearby city of Toulon.
Perhaps don’t pack your days too overly full, however – you’re on holiday, after all, and will no doubt want to spend some time relaxing on site. There’s an open-air pool (open May to September) on site for that, plus a play area, a pétanque court and a games room. Evening entertainment runs in the summer months, and the site also has its own restaurant, takeaway and bar.
Rather sort out your own snacks and drinks? Each of the accommodation units has a kitchen area and space to eat either indoors or out on the deck; the units also have a bathroom and separate bedrooms, plus both air conditioning and heating to keep them comfortable all year round.

Liked The cabin itself was lovely. And there was a bakery near a couple minutes away.
Disliked That people live on the site ,we were next to a family. The kids were running around shouting at eachother and the parents were sat outside on their phones all the time.

Local attractions
To the beach, then… but where first? If you’ve got the family with you, perhaps head east towards Plage des Sablettes (15 minutes’ drive) for a sandy beach with surfboard rentals and plenty of places to eat. More intrepid types might like to venture south instead, to secluded spots like Plage de la Fosse and Plage du Mont Salva (20 minutes), which are wilder places. Plage Naturiste du Saint-Selon (15 minutes) is the place for those who want an all-over tan.
Toulon (10 minutes) is home to the Hôtel des Arts contemporary art museum, the Musée National de la Marine and the Musée Mémorial du Débarquement, and you can also ride a cable car up into the mountains for excellent views out to sea. The city is also a busy port with services to Porquerolles and Corsica.
Wine enthusiasts will definitely want to explore the Bandol area (20 minutes) while they’re here; family-friendly alternative days out include the chance to meet flamingoes at ZOA Parc (10 minutes).
