- Gorges de la Siagne 20 minutes’ drive; Lac de St Cassien half an hour
- Geodesic domes with breakfast provided, meals and hot tub available
When romance is in the air, consider retreating with your partner to La Casa Mille et Une Nuits, a secluded adults-only glamping site surrounded by trees in the Var forest. At 15 minutes’ drive from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur village of Mons, this peaceful spot offers up getaways for two, far from city life on a private estate and giving you the chance to disconnect completely from everyday cares.
Simple accommodation is in transparent geodesic domes, furnished with double beds, a couple of chairs and spectacular views of the stars on clear nights. Heating, electric blankets and a thick duvet can be supplied on demand, and there are composting toilets and alfresco solar-powered showers a short walk from the domes.
To make life easy so you can get on with chilling, a slap-up continental breakfast is provided. The site owners can provide other meals for an extra charge; please book 24 hours in advance. You can also kickback in the hot tub under the stars – again please book a day ahead of time.

Local attractions
First stop on your exploration of the Var may well be hilltop Mons (15 minutes’ drive); at 800 metres above sea level, it’s the highest village in the region and has spectacular views over forested hills to the Mediterranean coastline. Learn about the Provençal way of life in the Maison Monsoise, topped with a gaily tiled steeple, and sample regional tapenade on fougasse flatbreads in auberges looking out over the valley.
When you need to work off a long lunch, head for the scenic Gorges de la Siagne (20 minutes), where you can walk alongside the river and dip into its clear waters to cool off. Lovers of history may prefer to take a hike up to the Roman aqueduct (10 minutes to the nearest section), which meanders across the Var countryside for 42km.
Watersports more your style? Best make for Lac de St Cassien (half an hour), where you can spend a leisurely day swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing (when conditions are right). There are several bars and cafés around the lake, so you can keep nicely fed and watered too.
